I've become really intrigued with American history lately. And while I don't think I'm totally ready to deep-dive into an encyclopedia or a 500-page non-fiction account of what happened, I've found some amazing historical fiction reads that have stirred up something new inside. The birth of America wasn't unlike the birth of a child: traumatic, painful, and much slower than anticipated. But in the end, the beauty in watching it grow into something beautiful was well worth the agony. This country was founded on, well, awesomeness. If you don't believe that, maybe it's time you revisited history. A couple books that might help you ease into things are "Johnny Tremain" by Esther Forbes, and "My Brother Sam Is Dead" by Christopher Collier and James Lincoln Collier.
America is indeed beautiful. Let's rediscover what made her so.
