Dr. Karla Diaz Davalos died on July 27, 2013 at the age of 31, after a hard-fought battle with Burkitt's lymphoma. During her first year of fellowship in the Department of Medicine at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, she and her husband, Tony, were blessed with the news of her pregnancy. Being a devoted physician, Dr. Davalos continued to work tirelessly throughout her pregnancy and unknown illness at the time, which was later diagnosed as lymphoma. A miracle sent from above, her adoring baby boy, Pablo, was born on December 23, 2012, perfectly healthy. Seven months later, she lost the fight. Karla was an extraordinary young woman who touched many lives, and she will be forever loved. We invite you to celebrate her life at the 5th annual Laugh for Lymphoma benefiting the Halo House Foundation on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Laugh Out Loud! Comedy Club. We will bring the finest comedians together for an evening of laughs, dining, and a toasting of our guest of honor. Our headliner for the evening is John Heffron with K-Von featuring and Michael Crocker hosting. All proceeds from Laughs for Lymphoma benefit the Halo House Foundation, and their mission of making life easier for people with lymphoma. Prior to her passing, Karla was involved in the early planning of the inaugural event and hand-picked this organization as the charity to support as they are the only organization focusing specifically on providing housing for blood cancer patients at the Texas Medical Center. The Halo House Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that assists people of all ages who are being treated for a blood cancer by providing them with fully furnished housing at a very low cost while they are undergoing active treatment for their cancer at the Texas Medical Center. Every year, San Antonio leukemia or lymphoma patients travel to the Texas Medical Center for potentially life-saving treatments to cure their cancer. They come because care is unavailable locally, or because their local treatments have failed. We look forward to sharing this lively evening with you and your guests.
