An exciting truth 👇🏽😯

This one always gets some pushback, but we are at a point where we have proven time and time again that:
LIFTING WEIGHTS IN OLDER AGES IS BENEFICIAL AND SAFE 👏🏽

I took a family trip to Redbluff, Ca about a year ago, and came across a gym for a drop-in and in the other room I saw a class going on full of more elderly patients. When I asked the coach about it, he told me this was the “silver sneakers club” how great is that?! Not only a fun and clever name and community, but it’s exciting to see that we are prioritizing the health of older folks and teaching them the importance of resistance training 🏋🏽‍♂️

The idea that it’s too dangerous for them is old news. What we find is that it actually has multiple benefits like the ones listed above 👆🏽

I would argue that it’s more dangerous for them not to exercise and lift weights. Staying sedentary breeds illness. Stay moving, stay mobile, stay strong 💪🏽

It only pauses the problem until you move again 🧠 💣

This one is a staple, read below ⬇️

The Turkish get-up has absolutely earned its place in your rehab, or strength training sessions. It achieves so many different benefits with one movement flow 🤯

Because shoulders are the most mobile joint in our body, it’s important that we develop strength and stability in order to avoid injury. The Turkish get up does this by placing an axial load through the joint in varying degrees which allows for full ROM training. This essentially gives you the best bang for your 💰

At the same time, this movement requires a lot of core strength and stability, thoracic mobility and flexibility in the hips. This gives you a full body workout that most other traditional gym movements will not stress. Motion is lotion 🧴 so give it a go and get moving 🏋🏽‍♂️

The proof is in the 🥣

This patient has dealt with chronic shoulder pain for years and despite getting care from other traditional chiros and PT’s, she never had the actual root of the issue addressed which was her lack of thoracic mobility and stiff rib cage 🩻

Here we did a simple screening to see how she rotates when isolating only through the T-spine and as you can see it was very restricted 🚫

After her treatment plan of care here is her results
✅ increased ROM
✅ increased motor control
✅ decreased shoulder pain
✅ increase in weightlifting overhead activities
✅ increased happiness for getting back to what she loves 🙌🏽
