Paired Donation continues to save lives!

Recently, APKD and the Denmark Foundation teamed up to help Morton (pictured second from right) receive a lifesaving kidney from Peter (far left).

Sue Rees, Krista Sweeney and Jan (from the Denmark Foundation, far right) met with Morton and Peter as they were being evaluated at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Hope on the horizon! It will likely be a few years down the road, but new possibilities are opening.

For the first time, a pig kidney has been transplanted into a human without triggering immediate rejection by the recipient's immune system, a potentially major advance that could eventually help alleviate a dire shortage of human organs for transplant.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is ILLEGAL in the United States to buy/sell an organ. Anyone interested in being a living donor can only DONATE their kidney, it cannot be sold!

The most that we can do is fundraise to help with minor travel expenses for appointments during the donation process & perhaps even help cover lost wages (in full or in part) incurred during the testing process & recovery period. Anyone needing this assistance should contact me, Myra, to discuss.
