🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
Community is stronger than cancer.
Recently, I was able to participate in the American Cancer Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Walk in San Diego.
I often participate in community service events and activities and this is one I try and support annually.
As an oncology nurse practitioner, I see just how devastating and life changing a cancer diagnosis can be.
Awareness, support, funding, research and access are all important factors in improving cancer rates and survival.
I was happy to walk alongside my sorority sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sororiry, Incorporated. We even got to see the San Diego Padres Friar mascot!
This “Pink October” I stand in support of the many men and women impacted by breast cancer. I hope additional advances are on the horizon to save lives.
What community service events do you participate in? Any that you have heard of that you would like to support?
🏆 My win for the week🏆
Focusing on slowing down. In the busyness of life, I often feel myself speeding up and going from appointment to appointment and task to task. I check in with myself daily to see what my body needs. A part of this is slowing down. This allows me to be intentional in time and connections with family and loved ones. This allows me to enjoy the beauty that is all around me. This allows me to enjoy my life instead of rushing through it.
What wins are you celebrating this week?

1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime…
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide.
What is breast cancer?
Breast cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the breast tissue. More specifically, it can develop in the:
🌸 lobules (glands that create breast milk)
🌸 ducts (canals that connect lobules to the ni***es)
🌸 ni**le
🌸 fat and connective tissue
🌸 blood vessels and lymph vessels
Breast cancer can spread through the blood and lymphatic system which can result in breast cancer developing in distant parts of the body.
Breast cancer may present with any of these changes in the breast(s) or ni**le(s):
🌸 redness
🌸 lump in breast
🌸 swelling
🌸 lump in armpit
🌸 orange-peel texture
🌸 dimpling
🌸 discharge
🌸 pulling in
🌸 new inversion
🌸 ulcer
🌸 scaliness
Self breast exams can help individuals become familiar with their breast tissue and be more aware of concerning changes.
Mammogram is the gold standard screening exam for detection of breast cancer.
Treatment for breast cancer may include:
🌸 surgery
🌸 radiation
🌸 chemotherapy
🌸 hormonal therapy
🌸 targeted therapies
Early detection is key to allow for the best treatment options and outcomes possible.

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
Celebrating 45 years of sisterhood and service to the San Diego community.
Many of you may know that I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., a historically Black community-service based organization.
Locally, my undergraduate chapter celebrated 45 years with a weekend of reuniting, reminiscing and cherishing the memories over the years.
Being a part of this organization has developed me into a strong leader, fearless advocate and allows me to connect with incredible women worldwide who are truly making an impact in every way.
Grateful to belong to an organization with such a rich history and deep legacy which continues on today.
🏆 My wins for the week🏆
Sharing laughs, memories and hugs with my sorority sisters. The time spent celebrating as so lovely and filled my cup in every way.
Having a robust conversation with a new attorney client. It is always awesome when I end a conversation with an attorney commenting on how valuable and helpful my insight has been. Truly enjoy my consulting work and providing medical expertise.

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
Step into your light and SHINE ✨🌟💫
Sometimes we need a reminder of the awesomeness that is within us.
Recently, a coworker reminded me of something simple: “Lakeisha rocks.” This simple statement and reminder boosted my energy and gave a fresh look on the day.
Working in healthcare is no easy job, but I absolutely love doing what I do and providing care for others.
This statement reminded me: I do rock. I give my all in all that I do. I am appreciated by others.
It’s amazing how a small compliment can have such a profoundly positive impact.
What is a compliment that you received recently that you really appreciated?
🏆 My win for the week🏆
Girl’s night for the win! Recently I was able to enjoy a ladies night in with some friends, who I also work with. Working in healthcare is not always easy and finding community and friendship in some people has been a true gift. Being able to catch one another up and share laughs and good eats was much needed!
What wins are you celebrating this week?

Over 1 billion people worldwide live with a mental health condition….
Recent data indicates that these staggering statistics are on the rise.
Many are impacted and mental health impacts overall health in countless ways.
Today is World Mental Health Day 💚
World Mental Health Day is utilized
to raise awareness, combat stigma, and promote resources for mental well-being.
Simple ways I prioritize my mental health:
🟢 Working out 3x per week
🟢 Taking walk breaks regularly at work
🟢 Practicing daily gratitude
🟢 Saying no to things that do not serve me
🟢 Giving myself grace and being patient with myself
🟢 Enjoying spontaneous sleep in pajama days
🟢 Sharing regular date nights with my husband
🟢 Having calls and time with family and loved ones
🟢 Taking trips regularly
🟢 Partaking in experiences I enjoy
This World Mental Health Day I also continue to learn ways in which I can support those in my life and community.
Life is not always easy and we are stronger when we support not another.
How do you prioritize your mental health?

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
May the best team win 🏈 ….
This passed Sunday, I was able to enjoy the Washington Commanders vs. Los Angeles Chargers game with my husband.
As you can see, we root for different teams which made game time that much more fun.
The Chargers had a strong start but as the quarters went on, the Commanders took complete control of the game and ended up winning.
Yet another example that it is not always how you start that is important, but how you finish. Definitely applicable to sports, personal life and professional life.
Remember: don’t stop until the clock hits 00:00. Oh and it’s still .
What NFL team do you root for?
🏆 My win for the week🏆
Starting to plan trips for 2026! My husband and I are starting to pick dates and locations for vacation trips next year and I am super excited! Anyone else feel more energized and rejuvenating with planning vacations??
What wins are you celebrating this week?

Cheers to Bowel Prep! 🍻
Well….this not the type of beverage most of us would ideally want to consume, but it is one often needed prior to an important procedure.
Due to some GI symptoms I was having, I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy performed.
An Endoscopy or is a procedure where the esophagus, stomach and small intestine are visualized using a scope.
A colonoscopy is similar, but visualizes the large intestines and re**um.
In order to see the liking of the colon, typically one would need to be on a clear liquid diet the day before the procedure.
Also, a bowel prep is utilized to clear out the bowels so the scope can have clear visualization.
The bowel prep I took was a combination of Sodium Sulfate, Potassium Sulfate and Magnesium Sulfate split into two 6 ounce bottles.
As you may expect, it is important to stay close to the bathroom once bowel prep has been started.
Colonoscopies are an important part of routine screening for colore**al cancer, which is the 3rd most common cancer worldwide.
Colonoscopies are not as scary as one may think and save lives! Please check with your primary care provider to see if a colonoscopy is recommended for your personalized care needs.
Attorneys: Do you have a case where a colonoscopy or another procedure played a role in your client’s case? Have questions on your case? Let’s chat!
Healthcare professionals: Have you had a colonoscopy before?

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
REMINDER: You are a star ⭐️.
Recently I went to Starbucks for my cup of morning joy. I realized the barista wrote a short but impactful message on my cup: You are a Star.
This unexpected yet timely word of encouragement stopped me in my tracks and really shifted my day in a positive way.
Simply by remembering my strength, my abilities and talents, provided renewed energy and excitement for the day ahead.
So I offer this: in the busyness of your day, slow down to pause and reflect on all of who you are and all you have accomplished.
🏆 My wins for the week🏆
Attending the sold out Chris Brown concert! The concert was amazing and he was phenomenal live. Being able to sing and dance the night away was so much fun! Definitely a night I will never forget.
Clean bill of health at the dentist! Dental health is so important to overall health, especially heart health. Grateful to have no issues and great report on the status of my teeth and gums. I love the feeling of ultra clean teeth after leaving the dentist!
What wins are you celebrating this week?

Cystoscopy: An inside view of the bladder.
A cystoscopy is a procedure that is used to diagnose problems or issues with the urethra or bladder.
During a cystoscopy, a thin scope with a camera is inserted through the urethra and allows an internal views of urinary structures.
A cystoscopy can be used to diagnose conditions such as
🟢 bladder or urethral cancer
🟢 bladder stones
🟢 urinary incontinence
🟢 enlarged prostate
🟢 urethra strictures
🟢 interstitial cystitis
🟢 and more!
If any suspicious areas are visualized during the cystoscopy, biopsies can be performed for further analysis.
As many of you may know, my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer over a year ago. He presented with symptoms and a follow up cystoscopy with biopsy is what confirmed his diagnosis. He now has cystoscopies at regular intervals to monitor how he is responding to treatment.
As an oncology nurse practitioner and now advocate for my father, I have become well versed in cystoscopies and reviewing pathology results.
Attorneys: do you have a case where a cystoscopy or another type of procedure to diagnose cancer played a role in your client’s case? Have questions on your case? Let’s chat!
Healthcare professionals: Have you heard of a cystoscopy before? What other oncology related questions do you have?

🩵 pelvic or abdominal pain
🩵 trouble eating or feeling full quickly
🩵 feeling the need to urinate more often
🩵 and more
Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed by:
🩵 pelvic exam
🩵 ultrasound
🩵 CT of abdomen and pelvis
🩵 tumor marker blood tests
🩵 biopsy
🩵 and more
Treatment may include:
🩵 surgery
🩵 chemotherapy

🚨IT’S WINSDAY🚨
Summer sunsets are golden…
Living in San Diego, I am blessed to be able to be outdoors year round as the weather is nearly perfect.
During the summer the sun shines a bit different and the sunsets are so lovely to take in.
Watching a sunset recently reminded me of a famous quote…

“Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens, every day can end beautifully.” - Kristen Butler
No matter what happens today, try to find some beauty in the day, whether it is a sunset, a bird chirping, time with your animals, etc.
What beauty did you see in yesterday or today?
🏆 My win for the week🏆
Having my very first facial EVER! I decided to have a spa day and do my monthly 90 minute massage and added in a facial. It was so relaxing and rejuvenating. I event went home with a few new skin care products.
What wins are you celebrating this week?
