Unite Orthopaedics Foundation is a 501c3 organization founded in 2004 with a commitment to excellence in the discipline of orthopaedic traumatology and fracture care.

Foundation Goals:
🦴 Train an orthopaedic trauma fellow in the discipline of orthopaedic traumatology and fracture care in a private practice orthopaedic trauma setting.
🦴 Contribute to the growing body of orthopaedic traumatology research and education to benefit patient care and surgeon wellness.
🦴 Maintain a national platform to share, collaborate, and exchange information on the latest innovations and advancements in treating various orthopaedic trauma injuries, practice optimization, and surgeon wellness.

All surgeons want to be better surgeons...They work hard to be respected by their peers, appreciated by their patients, and valued by their communities. Yet our current healthcare system drives surgeons to burnout and fails to produce the best patient outcomes. Philip Stahel reflects on his 25-year journey from his 'rookie years' in internship and residency, to his development as a global patient safety advocate, renowned academician, compassionate surgeon, and healthcare leader, as Dr. Stahel offers examples from experience of how great surgeons can grow into technically brilliant, empathic leaders.

The Unite Orthopaedic Foundation and the San Diego Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship would like to congratulate and welcome, Ryan E Dean, MD, 2023 - 2024 Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow.

Since 2005, the San Diego Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship has educated and trained orthopaedic surgeons who go on to work in orthopaedic practices in different settings across the country. Under the mentorship of Jeffrey M. Smith, MD, FACS, FAAOS, CPC, Harmeeth S. Uppal, MD, FAAOS, and Joel J. Smith, MD, the San Diego Orthopaedic Trauma Fellow cares for orthopaedic trauma and fracture patients at three hospitals in San Diego County – Sharp Memorial Hospital San Diego, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, and Palomar Medical Center Escondido.
