If you've experienced trauma, you might notice its effects in your thoughts, emotions, and relationships long after the event, and you don't have to navigate this alone.

CPT is an evidence-based approach designed to help people: understand and reframe unhelpful thoughts related to trauma, reduce guilt, shame, or self-blame, and build skills for coping with distressing memories and triggers. It offers a structured, supportive way to process trauma and regain control over your life.

Taking the first step can feel intimidating, but reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

💬 If you or someone you know is ready to explore CPT, I’m here to support you every step of the way. Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Have you experienced trauma that seems to have a persistent grip on your life? Anxiety comes into our lives and disrupts everything including our ability to make sound decisions with confidence. Anxiety can tend to direct our behavior toward the safest perceived option. At times, this is the best way to make a decision, with caution. However, there are many times when we have to step out and take a risk to get any different or better results. Anxiety can keep you safe, but it can also prevent you from making the decisions that you really want to make in your life.

One of the most common misconceptions about grief is that it should get easier in a predictable way.

In reality, grief is nonlinear. It can resurface during milestones, quiet moments, or times of stress. That doesn’t mean you’re going backward—it means your nervous system is still processing loss.

Grief often includes:
• Emotional waves that come and go
• Changes in sleep, energy, or concentration
• A need for connection—or sometimes space

All of this is part of the human response to loss.

Give yourself permission to grieve in your own way and in your own time.

Dealing with mental illness or mental health concerns in generally can come with a lot of feelings of shame. That mark of shame or discredit is stigma which can be put on us by the outside world or even ourselves. The outside world places stereotypes on labels including mental health. Self-stigmatization is when those outside beliefs become internalized and we begin applying those ideas to our own self. It can feel like a voice inside your head telling you that you aren’t good enough, like you are broken, or something is wrong with you because you struggle with anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns.

What is Mindful Solutions?

Do you tell yourself that you aren’t good enough or not smart enough? Do you feel stuck and not able to make progress because those negative thoughts are getting in the way of you being able to reach your goals? We really are our own worst enemy and our critical evaluations of ourselves are often much harsher than we would ever judge anyone else.

Do you wish that you had someone to talk to about these struggles who is safe and unbiased? You are not alone! Working with a therapist that is compassionate and understanding can help you let go of the past and dramatically change your life.

My name is Emmily Weldon and I own and operate Mindful Solutions, a professional counseling service. I would love the opportunity to offer support and understanding to you in navigating your relationship with yourself and learning how to incorporate self-compassion into your life. I provide counseling services via tele-counseling format in Iowa and Florida as an LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) as well as California as an LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor).

Coming to therapy, no matter the reason takes an incredible amount of courage. We are equals and I believe in a true collaboration with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I offer a free 30 minute consultation so that you can see if we are a good fit and whether our schedules match. Please call or email and I will return your call within 48 hours.
