Riding is a give and take relationship, and a horse will give you more than you can imagine if you earn their trust. I was reminded today of the many times when I have asked Casey Jones to give a little more than was fair to ask…. This was one of those times: I totally buried him at a fence and we crashed through it. He somehow flung me back into the saddle and we carried on. About 30 seconds later, I set him up way too long for the final oxer, but he just said, “It’s ok. I got this one.” 🐎

Reb has overdeveloped neck muscles and a weak topline, but has started a new fitness program to strengthen his back and rebalance his body. He can also be a little fidgety, but he turns into a statue when I release those crazy neck muscles! 😊

Saddle fitting day with ! Like bad shoes for a runner, improper saddle fit is a main cause of back pain. It can lead to asymmetric muscle development, balance problems and behavioral issues. If you have concerns about your tack, I recommend bringing your saddle to your horse’s next bodywork session so I can assess if there are any issues that may need to be addressed.

Osteoarthritis (OA) can’t be cured or reversed, but massage is non-invasive and can help reduce inflammation, pain, and slow down the degenerative process by releasing the muscles around joints to increase blood flow to them.
However, I collaborate with all my client’s vets and chiropractors because advanced cases of OA and joint injuries may need medical intervention as well.
Bo is a senior client who benefits from our regular massage sessions but has severe degeneration of his right stifle joint. Today he got an injection of Polyacrylamide Hydrogel - a nondegradable synthetic gel that integrates safely with soft tissues and can help lubricate the joint for up to 2 years. Looking forward to our bodywork session next week to see how Bo’s feeling!

Another visit with sweet Dante last night to work through some tightness in his right neck and left hindquarters. It’s not unusual to find bilateral compensations on opposite sides. Dante’s regular bodywork sessions help him rebalance himself as he continues to mature and build more muscle!
