Healing Prayers For Brittany Tomlin This page is to request prayers for Brittany Tomlin who went in for Tonsillectomy and is now on life support fighting for her life.

From the excitement of getting her braces off on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, to fighting for her life just a few days later, 17-year-old Brittany Akemi Tomlin (Akemi means “bright and beautiful” in Japanese… a name given to her at birth by her Japanese grandmother) and her family never dreamed a routine tonsillectomy would have such a major impact on her happy and innocent world filled with soccer, cheerleading, and friends. Brittany, a healthy rising senior at El Camino High School in Oceanside, California, went in to the hospital on Thursday, June 9th for a standard procedure to remove her tonsils, but is now on a ventilator fighting for her life. This nightmare is the result of Brittany contracting double pneumonia during her operation, most likely from gases entering her lungs when the breathing tube was being removed. With an extremely high fever, chills, vomiting, diarrhea, dangerously elevated blood pressure, low oxygen levels, and a collapsed lung, doctors attempted to extract the mucus in her lungs, but Brittany’s body rejected the tube and her airway closed, making it necessary to place her on a ventilator and be put in the intensive care unit. After repeated requests to have her transferred to a different hospital because her condition was deteriorating, doctors finally acknowledged that they did not have the resources to treat Brittany in her current, critical state. Hours after stabilizing Brittany in preparation to be airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, she miraculously made the flight on Saturday, June 18th. She was immediately placed in intensive care and put back on a ventilator. The lab results from the cultures taken of the mucus filling her lungs eventually came back showing that in addition to the pneumonia, she also had both a fungal and viral infection. The reality of this terribly disastrous situation has been traumatic for our family. With a severely compromised immune system, Brittany is in an induced coma so her body can rest and, with the addition of several extremely strong medications and the ventilator, attempt to fight these infections in her body and hopefully heal. Her condition is critical and more serious than I can possibly express… her prognosis is unknown at this time. The doctors and staff at Rady have been tremendous and are doing all they can to help Brittany beat this unfortunate illness, but they are preparing us for a long, complicated journey at best. As her mom, I would like to ask anyone who is willing to pray to lift my beautiful daughter up for total healing.

Brittany's days are full each day. 930-1030 occupational therapy this is to be sure Brittany can shower, brush teeth and feed herself. 10:30-11 is speech therapy . 11-12 is school room Brittany does math and word problems, this teacher reaches out to her school at el camino on what Brittany has been through this summer and gets tired quickly. But she is determined then 2-3 physical therapy.

Those of you that really know me know how I feel about God & how much I believe in the power of prayer. Also, most of you know that a coworker & dear friends granddaughter was going thru some horrible medical issues & we have all been praying I wanted to share this picture. She went from ventilator to this in a matter of days! How can you not believe when there are miracles like this?! Thank you for keeping me updated Cindy Harris! I asked my sister, Brittany's grandmother, for a picture of Brittany today and this is what she sent! Brittany said it was just for me... which absolutely made my day!! Isn't she beautiful?!? ❤️ Both doctors and nurses are amazed at how well she is doing... that they have never seen anyone do so well after only being off the ventilator for 3 days. Numerous nurses and doctors are stopping by her room just to see her for themselves, and many have said she is a true "miracle." We know that Brittany's beautiful transformation is a result of God's healing touch... only something He can do! Thank you all for your incredible prayers, support, and encouragement along the way. Although Brittany has come so far since the horrible complications shortly after her surgery on June 9th, she still has a long road ahead of her, so my entire family treasures your continued prayers for complete healing and want to say THANK YOU to EVERY person who has prayed!! Brittany's friends, their families, the doctors, nurses, and entire Rady Children's Hospital staff have been AWESOME! Thank you all!!

Brittany's current status: She is awake, although the drugs she's being weaned off of still make her sleepy, and beginning to speak a little more each day (she was solely using sign language before). To hear her little, weak voice is such a blessing and absolutely the very BEST sound her mom and grandmother's ears have EVER heard... EVER!! She is extremely weak, but getting stronger every day and going through physical therapy. Brittany has progressed from simply moving her arms and legs to sitting up to getting into a wheel chair to taking her first steps (with help of course) today! Praise God!! Her vitals are good, except her blood pressure is somewhat high and is being treated. Brittany's left lung is still collapsed and has a great deal of infection in the lower lobe... prayers, please, that she will be able to remove this naturally and there will be no scarring. To grasp just how sick Brittany was, and how far she still has to go, her doctors expect that she will remain in the hospital for at least another month or two, followed by additional home health care. Again, we truly appreciate your continued prayers and support! Love and blessings. ❤️
