Hotter is not always better.

Sauna works because of hormesis – the right dose of stress creates adaptation. In the optimal range (roughly 150–190°F), heat exposure increases heat shock proteins, supports BDNF production, improves cerebral blood flow, and helps regulate inflammation. That’s where many of the cognitive and longevity benefits appear.

But when temperatures climb past ~200°F, the stress response can shift from adaptive to excessive. Cortisol rises, dehydration risk increases, oxidative stress goes up, and the potential brain benefits may plateau or even decline.

More heat is not more results. The goal is strategic stress, not survival mode.
