A high school student in New Jersey promotes inclusion and accessibility by using recycled materials to create braille keyboards. “I couldn’t accept that accessibility tools were priced out of reach for so many people." Read more about Sharma's $10 braille keyboards on Disability Scoop. ⬇️

When Umang Sharma saw an ad for a $7,000 Braille keyboard, he knew there had to be a better way. Now his nonprofit has grants from Google and Microsoft to distribute a much more affordable version.

Happy Lunar New Year! February 17th marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, aligning with this month's new moon. This year is the Year of the Fire Horse. The Fire Horse represents transformation, freedom, and intense, bold energy. Lunar New Year celebrations often last up to 16 days including gifting red envelopes with money symbolizing good fortune, decorating with red lanterns and paper decor, and enjoying meals with loved one.

There are many Lunar New Year celebrations you can join in around San Diego including the San Diego Lunar New Year Festival in City Heights, the San Diego Tết Festival in Mira Mesa, the Balboa Park Chinese New Year Fair: Hosted by the House of China, and many more.

Wishing everyone a happy and bold Lunar New Year!

With love in the air today, we would like to introduce the very happy couple: Taylor, an SDRC Board Member, and her fiancé, Dan. Taylor and Dan have been together for almost two years and are happily engaged.

People with disabilities have a right to have and maintain meaningful relationships, romantic and not. Often individuals with disabilities can face harmful assumptions about relationships, independence, and romance. For Taylor, it's important to her that others know people with disabilities can absolutely be in successful, loving relationships. And her advice for a successful relationship is: "Take it slow, don’t rush things, and just really enjoy being each other’s best friend. He makes me feel loved and cared for like I’ve never felt before. I feel like I'm just one of lucky ones."

Dan shared what he loves most about Taylor: "She's beautiful, cute, funny, and fun to be around and always has a good smile and always tries to help people. And being around her makes me happy." They both agreed they're looking forward to spending their whole lives together.

We're wishing Taylor and Dan many happy years to come, and a happy Valentine's Day to all! ❤️
