The great thing about mini-habits is that they are so easy to reset if life interrupts. I was really excited about my new REFIT class at CYT on Saturday so I didn’t do my 3 morning mini-habits at the normal time. But before I went to bed it only took 3 minutes to stretch, journal and read before I could rest peacefully knowing that I had kept my intention for another day. 3 simple things that I have struggled with for years are finally becoming part of my daily routine by mini-sizing them! Goals don’t have to be huge and daunting. One simple change repeated again and again can make a powerful impact. Mini-habits take just a few minutes to complete but help the brain accept the new habit without expending too much willpower or meeting too much resistance.
Here are a few healthy mini-habit ideas:
1. Eat one vegetable at breakfast
2. Spend 2 minutes stretching before bed
3. Take 3 deep breaths when feeling stressed
4. Drink one full glass of water first thing in the morning and before every meal
5. Take a five minute walk every afternoon when energy feels low.

Lasting wellness is really sum of a lot of little choices we make everyday. Over time, these add up to a healthier lifestyle. One day you wake up and realize that your life is so much different than it was a few years ago. (OBTW workouts for in between boot camp sessions are still going on Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:45 am.)
