Assembly Bill 455 makes California the first state to legally define thirdhand smoke, the toxic chemical residue that lingers on walls, carpets, and furniture for years. The bill requires sellers of single-family homes with knowledge of to***co residue, or a history of smoking or va**ng, to disclose that information in writing. Plus, the state's Homeowner's Guide to Environmental Hazards will be updated with a new section on thirdhand smoke. β
