Eric Garcia came to Paradise Valley Hospital in a time of need. The night shift at our hospital laboratory was short a position. Eric, a clinical laboratory scientist, was hired on as a contract “traveler” employee to fill that gap. Very quickly Eric’s reliability, dedication, and work ethic ingratiated him with his co-workers. And the feeling was mutual from Eric towards his new “work-family,” so much so that he decided to stay on as a full-time employee after his contract ended.

Nico Saguin, Eric’s director, was happy when Eric was chosen as Paradise Valley Hospital “WOW” Employee of the Month for July, 2025. “Having Eric here allows us to provide uninterrupted service for our patients. We are so grateful that Eric decided to stay permanently. He is an outstanding employee and an overall high performer. We very much value Eric’s contributions to the laboratory.”

Charles Havea was singled out by his co-workers and patients for his calming and compassionate approach to patient care. Even with the most agitated or anxious patients, he is able to allay their fears with his ability to listen, acknowledge how they are feeling, and be fully present for them. "Charles, man--Charles has been great,” commented one of his patients. “He treats me with respect. You can tell he cares."

Michelle Vera is a 25-year veteran at Paradise Valley Hospital’s South Bay Rehabilitation Center known for her creative approach to treating her physical therapy patients. For example, she had a particular patient who was a young mother at the time, and her goal was to be able to play with her toddler on the floor again, despite her injuries. Michelle tailored a treatment scenario for her where she had the patient sit on the floor on a raised mat with a co-worker on the floor in front of her simulating the young mother’s child. While Michelle supported the mother and kept her from falling over and injuring herself, Michelle had her toss a small ball back and forth to her “toddler.” The patient was elated, smiling from ear-to-ear because Michelle showed her a way to bond with her child despite her limitations.
