윤슬 Yoonseul

The rippling, shimmering light reflected on the surface of water, when it’s caused by sunlight or moonlight. It captures the fleeting beauty of light dancing on waves.

Instead of a poem, this time it’s just a word- to honor the bond between light and water, mother and daughter. It is this sweet girl’s birthday and reflecting on this birth reminds me of how much is possible when we expand our hearts, as parents. I have attended many births of families with more than one child, but to see how their love abundantly graces each of the children, is just as beautiful as moonlight on the ocean.

Magia De Mujer

‘La magia de su vientre
Que contiene importantes ingredientes
Nuestros géneros antecedentes
entran los militantes hacia el frente
creación de una ternura milagrosa
oof que cosa
dar luz igual que el amanecer
solecito del día
luna del mes, mapache de noche’

This photo is a snapshot of the bond of sisterhood. ✨
Uñas de and .omee - in active labor over the birthing waters. I met Neomi in the nail salon and if you’ve ever sat in her chair, you know her radiance far extends beyond her job title. She’s held so many with her hands + consejos ✨ you may leave with her art but you also with a fresh perspective. There was a time when .luna.love and I both had the same nail set from her and that memory feels so tender now. It was an honor to be her a Midwife and see her precious family grow. May we all be held and hold each other with grace.

sent me this postpartum nervous system elixir to try, after I asked for an option to add to my client gift bags. Let me tell you- it is amazing. Rose, hibiscus, and Motherwort are some of my favorites and these allies have been helping me navigate the pre-teen dysteregulating in my home. Can’t wait to offer this support for my postpartum families 💕

One thing I have embraced is being soft to the changes of parenthood. I let it change me, even when it’s scary. Humbling myself to the perspective of my 11 year old and letting her show me the way -sometimes, has revolutionized how we walk into these pre-teen years. I’ve always been too scared to hurt myself but hey, I didn’t fall today. Grateful my sister took these photos of us 💕

Reflecting on all of the families I had the honor to work with this year and all of the experiences that broadened my perspective, as a Midwife. Looking back at 71 births in 2025, and so many more families that I supported prenatally, postpartum, and in growing their families with IUI/preconception.

Processing Cedar this morning was the perfect meditative task for this reflection as well as preparing prayers for 2026, which will be a lighter year for births. I’m staying open to the abundance and what this new Gregorian calendar year will bring, not only in my Midwifery practice but for growth in all directions.

A Midwifery philosophy that I deeply connect with is the ‘claiming’ that evolves with families, when the care relationship feels aligned and authentic. I can’t articulate how much gratitude I feel to have the privilege of working with families who show up for themselves and the collaboration with my care has a clarity that allows the experience to evolve smoothly. As I watch families, mostly from afar, grow and the baby’s are no longer in arms but living their full lives- I can’t help but feel a sense of pride. I’m proud of how they have all grown and accomplished. It feels a bit like yelling ‘That’s my daughter!’ When she’s in the soccer field, except it’s: ‘That’s my Midwife family’. You are all doing bigs things and every time I drive past your homes to go to another birth or home visit, I send you my love.

A weaving project I created last fall for my dad to remember the rolling hills and big sky of the land he grew up on in Montana. I typically don’t keep my little projects but it is nice to see them now and again, remembering where I was when I created it and the growth that has come since. 🤍
