I originally wrote this book in 2001 because so many of the speech therapists working under me were at a loss as to the "how tos" of a clinical setting. Such as, writing a physician's order, daily note, careplan etc, etc. I recently updated it to reflect the medicare changes, which there have been many. It will "literally"become your new best friend as you find your way thru the fast past, often stressfilled life of a therapist in a clinical setting. The information in this book is rarely taught in school. I found out the hard way, doing my CFY that you are pretty much on your own. I made a notebook for my new clinicians to carry with them for quick reference. When I discovered that they were all "missing", I figured I was onto something and self published it. Then as life would have it, I got busy and forgot about it. Last year I decided to revive it. I'm so glad I did. I just read an article in ASHA leader titled "Under Pressure" by Matthew Cutter and Carol Polovoy. It describes much of Rachel Wynn's experiences of being a CFY. It reminded me of my experiences that were awful enough to comtemplate leaving the profession after just receiving my Masters. I hung in there and vowed to change it. Thus, "My New Best Friend" was born. I truly hope it will help all the clinicians who believe in giving the best care possible to the elderly, in a calm, loving enviornment, feeling confident that they have the information they need to see this honor to fruition.

If you work as a Speech Therapist in an Assisted Living Facility or an Alzheimer’s or Nursing Home, I think you will find this Clinical Speech Therapy Workbook to be user friendly and truly your New Best Friend.
There is nothing out there like this in our industry. It is something that grew out of necessity. New graduates and caregivers will be amazed at the knowledge this workbook offers.
