This book is an incredible resource for anyone, truly. It’s written by a mental health provider (psychotherapist) with decades of experience. She worked supporting folks choosing the procedure and also for those providing the procedure, employees of Planned Parenthood here in SD. She also worked at SDSU for years training folks how to support those receiving this vital part of healthcare.


The first many chapters of the book are on her website of the same name, check it out if you please. Yes, the language centers women receiving care. Yes also, it’s applicable to any/all life experiences and events and is written at the 5th grade reading level. She’s trying to get it published in Spanish, too, if anyone knows anyone.


In full transparency, Ava is my therapist and has been since 2013. She isn’t accepting new clients, I don’t think but has been giving me excellent and sliding scale care for almost a decade, including EMDR which did and does continue to change my life.


She told me recently that she has a couple hundred copies left and would like to have them housed before she dies. Let’s do it!! Read the book online and/or with a free/discounted copy that I am oh so happy to pass you!!

We’ll dance together via Zoom for 1.5hrs with a little ground in & circle out, before & after. Its a collaborative playlist so put requests here and/or pay a cover and i’ll send you the spotify link ahead of time. Set list will be done & closed the day before.

Group agreements to come. Dont be a creep, do wiggle & giggle however you please. If youre unsure, learn a little about “non-linear movement” and “somatic healing” and how medicinal dance is. Its all fun, high vibes, no one will judge or shame you for joyfully moving in your body. Like Alice Walker wrote, “hard times require furious dancing.”

Where is baby (in the pelvis)?
Modern birth attendance is very "cervix-centered". We talk what mamma's/birthgiver's body is doing as if thats the whole picture. What about baby? How & where do they fit in?
This is a chart showing baby's head "stationed" in the pelvis. Please incorporate this into your paradigm. Our bodies are brilliant.

Did you know?: Babies, once their lungs are fully developed, send a hormone to the mamma/birthgiver's body to start labor/surges/ctx. Babies typically, physiologically, choose when they're ready.

The idea of a "Due Date" is based in very little evidence. About 4% of folks go into labor on that singular date. Like most things, there is a wide variation of normal. Typically, first time mammas/birthgivers labor starts around 41weeks +2days.
