San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit also operating as Southern California Blood Bank (So Cal Blood Bank). The Blood Bank connects diverse communities in Southern California to save and improve lives through blood and biotherapies. Each year SDBB collects more than 150,000 units of lifesaving blood that goes on to support the health and wellness of thousands of So Cal patients. SDBB's Cord Blood program serves as a public cord blood bank in California that provides lifesaving stem cells to help patients overcome life-threatening illnesses. Qualified cord blood donations are stored at SDBB and listed on the Be The Match Registry® through the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), and are available for transplantation worldwide.

👋 Meet Tommy Sablan, a San Diego native, hall of fame radio producer and business owner and K**I planner never thought he would need blood.

On February 13, he wasn’t feeling well and went to the ER. Doctors discovered a gastrointestinal bleed and kidney cancer. What he didn’t realize at the time was that he was slowly bleeding internally, which could be fatal.

Today, Little Tommy Sablan is doing well and is grateful to every blood donor who helped save his life. Your gift is more than blood — it’s hope, healing, and a second chance.

📸 On September 11, 2001, lines wrapped around our San Diego Blood Bank headquarters on Upas Street as our community came together to give life and support our neighbors, here at home and across the nation. That day, blood collected here in San Diego was the first to arrive in New York—380 units delivered by the U.S. Navy, even while flights were grounded—to help patients in need in New York hospitals.

More than 20 years later, this day continues to impact us all in different ways. It is a time of remembrance, reflection, and gratitude for the unity that emerged in a moment of darkness. ❤️🤍💙

As we honor the lives lost, we also honor the donors and community members who stepped forward then—and those who continue to do so today. Your generosity ensures we are always ready to serve.
