As a healthcare worker and citizen, I believe that healthcare is a human right. Access to healthcare would help to better manage health concerns, reduce healthcare costs, and improve quality of life.

The article below gives me great encouragement. But, even news that makes me feel good deserves to be fact checked. Yes, the magazine has a left bias. However, they are known for high quality fact based reporting.

Previous estimates suggested that Medicare for All would save $2 trillion. But it's even better: a new study finds that Bernie Sanders's bill would save $5.1 trillion — while providing universal, comprehensive coverage.

I have a gym membership again! I'm thrilled to be back in the weight room applying what I learned last semester in Movement Science 1. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My friend wants to work on upper body strength and power. So what does that mean? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That means that you want to do lower repetitions at a higher weight. Plus, you need to take a break between sets - at least 30 seconds to 2 minutes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
ne of the best ways to make sure that you are getting enough rest between sets is to alternate with a workout buddy. So, when you hire me as an exercise coach, you get a workout buddy with a BUNCH of knowledge and experience. I'm incredibly over-educated for your average Exercise Physiologist since I have already completed 114/122 credit hours required for my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Now, I've restarting my DPT at a different University, so I'm getting a good refresher!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The best thing about working with me (in my opinion - and my clients agree) is that I will never ask you to do something that I'm not willing to complete.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since we plan on doing an obstacle course race in 11/2021, it means that I need to work on my cardiovascular endurance. As a gal who prefers HIIT or nothing, the idea of a 5K is only more tolerable than the 10K course we were looking at. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, after making him 'suffer' at the weight rack, we finish with cardio where he gets to see me 'suffer.' Since he's a runner, this is more of his forte. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I'm your exercise coach, EVERYONE is miserable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just kidding. We work together to figure out what's best for your exercise goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Worried about pricing? Let's talk about it! I offer a variety of packages, and I guarantee we can make something work within your budget. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

October is Physical Therapy Month which is something that I'm obviously passionate about. You don't repeat the same graduate program for fun. 🤷‍♀️

October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is something I've become passionate about. As healthcare providers, and citizens, there are things you should know.

Keep in mind that I wrote this post a few years ago when I was recovering from my own abuse. Stats will be a few years old right now.

It's unfortunately more common than you think. You can never really know what goes behind closed doors - I remember having people ask me if I just "got cold feet" when I left my fiance.

Death threats are not cold feet.

Please read this. I wish someone would have helped me leave earlier, but again, the survivor first has to be ready to leave. It took awhile to get there.

The recovery has taken longer.

I can finally say my ex fiance's name without my stomach dropping and my heart racing.

I still have "bad days," but thankfully, they are not frequent.

Thank you to all who have helped me throughout the years. I wouldn't be here without you. 💜💙💚

Please share this if you've learned something.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this issue is unfortunately common. Nearly 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced domestic violence from their intimate partner. As of 2017,…

One of my great friends is offering telehealth physical therapy services in a judgment free zone.

She helped me get back to work after I injured my wrist unloading 5 pallets of dairy. 🥛We did a quick telehealth consult, and she prescribed simple exercises that made all the difference.

Mel is a passionate and wonderful therapist. Be sure to check out her site!

Yes!

My goal at Rebekah James - Facts, Fitness, and Fun is not to have "dependent" clients, but to help my clients feel comfortable in their exercise program. I'm available to support you, of course, but once they feel confident in their program, I don't "make" them stay. Let's aim for independence.

Talking with your patients and giving them the tools necessary to reach their goals is an invaluable asset.

You can have the most clever exercise in the world or perfect plan but if you leave your patient in the dark your outcomes will fall.

The whole “teach a man to fish” concept reigns prevalent in my practice.

If I we do our job well, then we will have reduced the patients need for us and created an independent and resilient human.

Educate / Empower / Create Independence and Resilience.
