Did you know that the day after Halloween is one of the sickest days of the year? Read this before you and your kids go out trick or treating!
Eating large quantities of sugar can disarm your immune system by 50% for up to 4 hours! Together with the changeable weather it's no wonder people get sick right after Halloween. In this post I share pro tips to protect your whole family without spoiling the fun.
Before you go out:
1) Feed your kids a warm nourishing meal before you take them trick or treating. This discourages them from overeating candy. I like to feed my family a warm, nourishing soup.
2) Take an immune booster: Mushroom formulas are some of my favorites.
3) Take Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc
4) Bundle your kids up and make sure they're warm
While you're out:
1) Encourage your kids not to eat anything until you've had a chance to go through their goodies
2) Teach your kids not to touch their mouth, nose or face before washing their hands
When you get home:
1) Wash your kids hands well with regular soap and warm water. Avoid antibacterial soaps which encourage the growth of antibiotic-resistant strains
2) Give your kids a choice. Use your bargaining power. Allow them to trade out their candy (or a portion of it) for money, a new toy or an outing. We switch out the cheap candy that's full of food dyes and chemicals, for healthier versions that are sweetened with honey/stevia, or even a good dark chocolate.
4) Then get rid of the candy. If you keep it in the house, it will get eaten by the kids or by YOU! Schools and dentists often have a donation box.
5) Don't forget to brush their teeth and floss well.
Homeopathic Remedies to Keep on Hand:
Aconitum napellus: For coughs, colds, flu or fever with anxiety which comes on suddenly from exposure to the cold.
Belladonna: For high fevers with flushed cheeks and glassy eyes.
Coffea cruda: For illnesses that come on after too much excitement. Children become restless, excitable, wound up and cannot get to sleep.
Lycopodium clavatum: For stomachaches and hyperactivity brought on by eating sweets, especially in kids who are hooked on sugar and have difficulty exerting control.
Antimonium crudum: For stomachaches from dietary indiscretions or overeating.
