There is a side of caregiving we do not talk about enough.

Sometimes, being the caretaker can become something we rely on more than we realize.

Not because we do not love deeply, but because being needed can feel like being worthy.

When someone depends on you,
when you are the one who shows up, fixes, helps, and carries,
for a moment, it quiets that deeper question so many of us hold,
Am I enough?

And the truth is, many caregivers learned early on that love was something we earned, not something we simply received.

So we give.
And give.
And give.
And yes, so much good comes from that love. Lives are changed. People are supported. Hearts are held.
But if we are not careful, we can begin to lose ourselves in the process.

Because no amount of caregiving will heal a wound that says
I am only worthy when I am needed.

That kind of healing has to come from within.

To every caregiver reading this,
You are worthy when you are resting.
You are worthy when you say no.
You are worthy when no one needs you.
And maybe that is where true healing begins.

Caregiver Stress Is Showing Up in Corporate America

Today in the U.S.:

Nearly 1 in 5 employees is also a family caregiver.

Over 53 million Americans are providing unpaid care to an adult or child.

Employed caregivers lose an average of 6–7 workdays per year due to caregiving demands.

Billions of dollars are lost annually in productivity because of absenteeism, presenteeism, and turnover tied to caregiving stress.

Not because they lack commitment.

But because they’re managing medications at 6 a.m., doctor calls at lunch, and dementia behaviors at 2 a.m.

When employees feel supported, they perform better.

I speak to companies about:

Understanding caregiver stress

Practical ways leaders can support caregiving employees

Reducing productivity loss while increasing compassion

If your organization wants to support employees proactively, let’s start the conversation.

Having choices is such an important part of life — including at the very end. I’m deeply honored to support individuals who choose to peacefully and legally end their suffering, surrounded by dignity and compassion.

Thank you to the state of Colorado and to End of Life Options for upholding the right to choice and for caring so deeply about humanity.

More terminally ill Coloradans than ever are turning to Denver Health’s Medical Aid in Dying clinic. We spent the summer witnessing the quiet decisions and final moments of those who chose when—and how—to say goodbye.

We need to fight this and protect our rights!!

In the wake of a new political landscape, many Americans are asking what the future holds for personal rights, including the autonomy to make decisions about end-of-life care. A new agenda—Project 2025, developed by the conservative “think tank” the Heritage Foundation—poses significant chal...
