After a wisdom tooth is removed, a blood clot forms in the empty socket to protect the bone and help healing. If that clot becomes dislodged or dissolves too soon, it leaves the bone exposed. This painful condition is called dry socket.

To avoid dry socket, follow the instructions provided by Drs. Hummeldorf, Rasmussen, Bischoff, and Scholer, including:
- Don’t smoke, v**e, or use straws while healing.
- Avoid spitting forcefully or rinsing too hard.
- Stick to soft foods for the first few days.

Dry socket is uncommon, and most people heal without issues. If any problems arise in your recovery, don't hesitate to reach out: 619-282-7088

The biggest dental problems are often the ones you can’t feel.

That’s why many patients are often surprised to learn that they need a bone graft before getting dental implants. If you've been missing a tooth for some time, the bone in your jaw may have started to deteriorate without you even knowing. Even without symptoms, jawbone loss can weaken the foundation needed to support an implant. A bone graft with Drs. Hummeldorf, Rasmussen, Bischoff, and Scholer can help restore a strong foundation for your dental implants.

Here's how dental implants work. Think of them as a strong foundation for your new smile. A tiny titanium post is placed in the jawbone, where it fuses naturally and acts like a tooth root. Then a custom crown is added, providing a secure, natural-looking replacement that feels just like your own teeth.

Missing teeth can have a domino effect on your health. When even one tooth is lost, the surrounding teeth can shift, your bite alignment can change, and bone loss in the jaw may begin. Over time, this can affect not only your smile but also your ability to chew, speak, and maintain proper oral health.

Dental implants provide a stable, long-term solution by replacing the root and crown of a missing tooth. They help preserve bone, protect surrounding teeth, and restore full function. If you're missing one or more teeth, come visit us at Kurt Hummeldorf, DMD Oral Surgery: 619-282-7088
