We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Nigel Rollins, a globally renowned leader in maternal and child health and retired Medical Officer from the World Health Organization (WHO), to UC San Diego this February! 🎉

His visit is a collaborative effort between the Human Milk Institute (HMI), the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science, and the School of Global Policy and Strategy.

Meet the MAC Team 🔬: Advancing Human Milk Science 🌟

Alec Michael Bizieff is a Staff Research Associate III at the Milk Analytics Core (MAC) at UC San Diego. With a Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology from UC Berkeley, Alec brings a wealth of expertise in stable isotope labeling, HPLC-MS detection, and multi-omic analysis of tissue regeneration and metabolic pathways.

At MAC, Alec leverages his mass spectrometry background to study infant nutrition and maternal health. He is currently analyzing human milk samples for vitamin concentrations, contributing to groundbreaking research in healthcare and life sciences.

When he’s not in the lab, Alec enjoys outdoor adventures, hitting the gym, and exploring his new passion for golf. 🏌️‍♂️

We’re thrilled to have Alec on the MAC team, driving innovation and discovery in human milk science!

🎉 2024 Milestones at HMI 🎉

As we close out a successful year, we’re proud to share the incredible milestones we’ve achieved at the UC San Diego Human Milk Institute (HMI). This year has been one of growth, collaboration, and impact as we continue to advance human milk science and healthcare for all. Here are some key milestones we achieved in 2024:

🔹 Growth & Expansion:
• Launched the Milk Analytics Core & Research Incubators
• Expanded our team with new staff scientists, clinical fellows, and community outreach director
• Hosted the successful 2024 HMI Symposium

🔹 Strategic Initiatives:
• Developed our 5-year strategic plan
• Formed the Strategic Advisory Board
• Partnered with Pump-kin and Rady School of Management
• Launched quarterly workshops and the HMI Collaborative Innovation Series

🔹 2025 HMI Symposium:
• Reached capacity with over 60 accepted abstracts
