Essential tremor is the most common movement disorder, a group of neurological conditions that disrupts the body’s ability to control its motions. The condition affects more than 60 million people worldwide, and nearly half of them go untreated. As essential tremor progresses and medication no longer controls the tremor, it can severely impact even the simplest tasks of daily life, such as eating, drinking and writing. Fortunately, Sharp now offers a treatment called MR-guided focused ultrasound, a one-time, noninvasive outpatient procedure that uses ultrasound waves, guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to treat the areas of the brain that cause tremors. For some patients, a surgical procedure called deep brain stimulation is another option in treating essential tremor. Learn more about both procedures and how to get the help you need by visiting http://spr.ly/6180B6Mb9y.

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center held an open house last week to celebrate the completion of its Emergency Department (ED) Transformation Project, which includes San Diego County’s newest Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), marking a significant investment in emergency and behavioral health care for the South Bay region.

The event was attended by Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, National City Mayor Ron Morrison, City of San Diego Councilmember Vivian Moreno, and other elected officials and community partners, including the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Services.

The ED Transformation Project aims to improve patient flow and create more efficient, person-centered spaces, including a modernized lobby, a new pharmacy and other patient care areas to meet the growing demand for emergency services at Sharp Chula Vista. Sharp is proud to continue honoring its commitment to the people of the South Bay. Learn more at sharp.com.
