Donald Trump has repeatedly insulted Seth Meyers on social media and in public statements, most notably calling Meyers "the least talented person to 'perform' live in the history of television" and a "deranged lunatic" after Meyers mocked Trump's remarks about aircraft carrier catapults on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

He reacted particularly strongly to Meyers' satirical take on Trump’s speech about electric versus steam catapults, stating that Meyers rambled on “like a truly deranged lunatic” and accusing his show of being "100% anti-Trump, which is illegal".​

Trump suggested, that Meyers' comedic mockery of him was "probably illegal" and called for his removal from television.
