Dry Scalp vs Dandruff: What Your Flakes Are Telling You
Not all flakes are the same! Knowing the difference helps you treat your scalp the right way.

Dry Scalp
Cause: Lack of moisture (cold weather, harsh shampoos)
Symptoms: Small, dry, white flakes; itchy, tight scalp
Treatment: Moisturizing shampoos, scalp oils, avoid overwashing

Dandruff (Seborrheic Dermatitis)
Cause: overgrowth of the common scalp yeast Malassezia (a fungus) is a primary trigger, often combined with oily skin.

Symptoms: White or yellowish flakes; itchy, sometimes red or oily scalp
Treatment: Medicated shampoos (zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole), reduce stress
