Hi Everyone!
It's been an amazing year for Teens for Seniors so far, and we're so happy we could share this experience with all of you.
Since the last update a lot of fun and exciting things have happened.
In April, we made paper flower bouquets in honor of Mother's Day. It was an amazing way to interact with the seniors and see them interact with each other! We got to see a creative side of the seniors that we had never seen before!
In May, the T4S group visited a group of seniors that are less active and have dementia/Alzheimer's. We brought a beach ball and had a Hawaiian theme to brighten things up, but we had expected a mostly quiet activity that day. However, the seniors had a different idea in mind: They hit that beach ball around like volleyball players! We even ended up doing an impromptu Bollywood dance session, and everyone joined in!
Over the past few months, we have learned how to cater our activities to all of the seniors and how to come up with a creative game or craft to do at each visit. However, we still need more members so we can share this joy with more people!
If you want to join Teens for Seniors, PM us today! Everyone is welcome :).

Hello Everyone and Happy Spring!
The T4S Team hopes all of you are having a wonderful Spring Break so far! :)
On Sunday, March 20, we all visited Golden Heritage Senior Living to spend some time doing activities with the elderly. This month, we brought the seniors Legos and had some creative building time. The results were incredible! The seniors built some inventive and detailed structures. This activity showed us that even though some seniors had never seen Legos before, they were still able to enjoy it and create some amazing things. Through the Legos, we discovered that creating things is another thing that the elderly really enjoy. This is a good way to keep the minds of seniors active and engaged and make their day a little brighter! In addition, we had a fun and lively game of Bingo and connected with the seniors more. The T4S team continues to move ahead with our new activity ideas that just make the visits better and better each month!
If you would like become a part of our group, please PM me or leave a comment below.

Happy New Year everyone!! As we enter 2016, it is important to remember that there are so many new opportunities that we can take advantage of this year and so many more things to accomplish. That's why the Teens for Seniors team is growing larger every month and learning new skills so that we can act on our goal to expand to other senior centers this year. But it is also important to remember and cherish the memories and successes of 2015. In October, the T4S team was given the opportunity to interact with the seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's for the first time, and it was eye-opening for all of us. In November, we got to talk to the English-speaking Japanese seniors, and we learned a lot about their lives and we got some heartfelt life lessons. In December, we came up with a creative and fun Christmas activity and sang carols with the seniors. 2015 has shown us that seniors are just as lively and creative as us teens, and all they need is a little boost from us to help them express that creativity. The T4S team encourages you to come and join in the making of more beautiful memories in 2016! Spread the love!
Please send us a message if you want to join Teens for Seniors.
Thank you all for your support and encouragement, and special thanks to Joseph Choi, Patti Choi, Golden Heritage Senior Living, and the rest of the T4S team (Keya Shah, Sreya Chadalavada, Sasha Hassan, and Neharika Makam) for your dedication to this program.

It's summertime! Teens for Seniors is looking to increase our impact, and for that, we're going to need more teenagers who are ready to dedicate some time to participate in our program. T4S is a great way to not only connect seniors to society, but also to learn from their life experiences and gain some of the knowledge they have accumulated over their lifetimes. Not to mention, it’s also extremely fun! Our most recent visit was absolutely wonderful; the T4S team brought in henna cones and spent the hour and a half creating incredible designs on the seniors' hands. We decorated the seniors' hands with everything from flowers to peacocks, and they were delighted! This super fun activity was a great way to get the seniors interested in popular things, as well as giving the team a hands-on experience (literally) with making connections.
Below are photos of everyone having fun, and also the beautiful henna designs on their hands. For more examples of the visits to Golden Heritage by the Teens for Seniors team, check out the rest of our posts!

Hi everyone! Teens for Seniors visits just keep getting better and better. Now, we are getting new members almost every visit! In the most recent visit (April 19, 2015), the T4S group did some surprisingly grueling exercise with the seniors before sitting down for a friendly game of Bingo. The prizes for the game were some delicious French cookies and seaweed. Many of the seniors proved to be very lucky people, winning multiple rounds of Bingo in just an hour. All in all, the April visit was pleasant and peaceful, a wonderful way to spend the afternoon for both seniors and teens. This coming visit (May 17, 2015), the T4S team has a super fun activity planned: we will be applying henna to the seniors' hands! This will be a great way to further connect with the seniors by teaching them about various customs while having fun. Special thanks to Joseph and Patti Choi for all their support for Teens for Seniors! Please message Teens for Seniors if you are interested in joining our program.

Hi Everyone! The February visit was a blast! This month we are proud to welcome a new member: Three cheers for Nina! In honor of Valentine's Day, the T4S team organized an activity for the seniors to decorate their own paper heart. The beautiful and touching words and pictures just melted our hearts! After the activity, we played a fun an exciting game of Left Right Center and gave out lots of sweet treats and goodies to our senior friends. We also celebrated Chinese New Year with the seniors and gave out gold coins during the games. This visit we had so much fun, and the seniors did too! We were able to see the joyful smiles and laughs of the seniors as they played and interacted in wonderful conversations with all of us. Please PM Teens for Seniors if you are interested in joining our program! Thank you for all your support!

Hello Everyone!!
Teens for Seniors met again on Sunday, January 18, at Golden Heritage Senior Center. This month, we had a new member: Aneesha! During the visit, we exercised, played Bingo, and talked to the seniors about their experience with T4S. We received positive and heartwarming answers:
Joe-san said that he is happy we came to the senior center and he wants us to keep visiting, and so did Lily and Mitchie! Our team is so grateful for all of the compliments, and we would like to thank Golden Heritage and the seniors for accepting us and participating to make T4S a success! The T4S team invites you to come and join us today to help make a senior's life happier, one teen and one senior at a time! Like our page and check out our photos!

Teens for Seniors has a new member!!! One of my best friends, Neharika Makam, joined us at our latest visit to Golden Heritage. This visit was special for all of us because it brought together the seniors and teens through the spirit of Thanksgiving. Before playing Bingo with the seniors, we all sat down and told each other what we were thankful for. Most of the seniors and teens agreed unanimously that we are thankful for our family, friends, and most of all, health. The heartwarming conversation was followed by a game of Bingo, during which the prizes consisted of a delicious box of chocolate (sponsored by our very own Joseph Choi). After the game, I agreed to do a one-man (or in this case, one-girl) comedy for the seniors. I think the comedy helped us achieve an important goal this meeting. We have successfully crossed the language barriers, and we were able to entertain the seniors at the same time! Teens for Seniors has made impressive progress throughout our visits and interactions with the seniors. I’m thankful to have my awesome team and grateful for all of my supporters out there!!!

The Teens for Seniors came back to Golden Heritage for another fun-filled visit! This session saw the T4S team in traditional Indian garb, explaining the meaning of Diwali to the curious and attentive group of seniors. After having nice conversation about the festival, we decided that nothing would light up the room like a bit of dancing. We stood in the middle of the room, turned up the music, and started dancing.
After a couple songs, we experienced a pleasant surprise; one of the seniors got up and began to dance with us! She moved to the beat and danced so well that the other seniors decided to stand up and join us. Pretty soon everyone, including the parents, was dancing to modern Indian pop music. We discovered that the seniors were so enthusiastic and active because they were happy that we had brought some of our Indian culture and a major part of modern culture into their lifestyle through our dancing and music activity.
Our dancing inspired the seniors to share some of their Japanese traditional and cultural music with us. One of the beautiful songs they shared with us is Hana Wa Saku, which means “Flowers Will Bloom.” This song was written shortly after the devastating Great East Japan Tsunami, because the writer (Iwai Shunji) felt that if young people could still love and live after the disaster, then maybe flowers could bloom out of the rubble. We enjoyed an afternoon of listening to music and having the seniors explain each beautiful meaning to us.
The Teens for Seniors team was really successful in our musical approach to entertain the seniors. We really managed to connect with them, and we are proud of ourselves for managing to reach such an important milestone. I hope we continue on such a wonderful path and have many more successes in the future. Please check out the beautiful pictures, courtesy of Joseph Choi and like and comment below!
