Open letter to the Christians and ex-Christians,

When you leave Christianity, you don’t realize Christianity is more than a man on the cross. It’s a whole separate reality built on problematic views, and that’s not hyperbolic.

How many times have you heard women are biologically inferior to men? How many times have you heard men were the hunters and women were the gatherers? This narrative being used to promote a view that women are less capable than man. What do pagans say about this?

Go look up the pagan deities for hunting. Why are so many well known deities of hunting, women? Even if they were man made deities, that’s a sign women weren’t seen as incapable. The truth is, hunting wasn’t gendered…it was a communial activity.

This is a narrative from the abrahamic patriarchy. There are multiple anthropological and archaeological examples of women hunters and women even buried with their hunting tools. Many cultures had over a quarter to 50% of their hunters as women. We have burial sites at least dating back 9,000 years that debunk this β€œwomen were only gatherers” narratives.

I grew up attending a couple parochial schools, went mean I was taught Christian Science and History in my youth. It took years to unlearn this. My brain didn’t compartmentalize what was science vs religion, nor was it presented in such a manner. I didn’t know men having less ribs than women…was a abrahamic belief. I was almost 30 before I learned that wasn’t real. A lot of the science and history I was taught…wasn’t real. It was Christian-washed.

Christianity is a whole worldview, specifically built to uphold their system of power. Some of these values really offend me. One of the biggest values i detest, was how victims would be punished for the actions of another.

Remember Exodus 4:23? If the parents didn’t line their door with the blood of the lamb, who was punished? God murdered the first born. Why was the child punished for their parent’s choice?

Remember Job? God wanted to test the faith of job. Why did this test involve murdering 10 of his children? As a reward Job’s family wasn’t revived, God just created new kids. Why were the kids murdered, let alone not revived by the all powerful?

Remember the biblical tales of sexual assault? Remember all the rules outlining punishment for women that were taken advantage of? The victim was punished, when they didn’t meet a laundry list of expectations during the assault.

Why are women demonized? They justify it with the tale of eve. Women have more sin then men, because of the debatable actions of eve. A whole gender is punished for the actions of one individual. Have you ever looked up traditional religious regulations for women? Things like being banned from church when menstruating, the traditional christian views. Women are punished and oppressed because of another’s actions.

We see this in modern day. Christian communities are rampant with victim blaming. The focus isn’t on the person commiting sin, it’s about demonizing the victim further. It’s so normalized that many can’t even consider it a problem, let alone even see it.

A topical example is the Christian claiming it’s the parents responsibility to feed their children and condemning the community for taking care of each other. If a parent can’t or won’t fulfill their duties, why are we punishing the child? What do you expect an 6 year old to do?

What happens when a husband has an affair? I’ve had many friends that lost their spouse to an affair, and there are so many similarities in their stories. The church keeps the cheater, and tells the women her lack of faith caused the affair. Each of my friends ended up being ostracized from their church, but their husband’s new family remained. Why was the victim punished?

I understand religions that uphold systems of power imbalance, often subscribe to this victim blaming practice. Take a moment to acknowledge, how many of these religions are abrahamic? Reality doesn’t work this way, it’s just indoctrination into a victim blaming narrative.

This leads to the mentality that those struggling, are struggling because of their lack of faith. It’s why Christian nationalists claimed California wildfires are due to a lack of communial faith, but red state floods just need support because they are good people. Anything bad that happens to those below them in their social hierarchy, are a sign from God…but their own personal problems are magically different and justifiable.

Imo this practice of demonizing the victim, draws some of the worst types of people to the religion. They aren’t believers, they don’t follow christ…they are there to reap the benefits from a system built on a power imbalance. They know their behavior will be excused, while the victim is systematically silenced.

When you stop believing in the magician and demiurge, that is only the beginning of deconstruction. A lot of people left the church, but kept the christian world view. If you are leaving the faith, you need to fully deconstruct. When you don’t fully deconstruct, you will find yourself still promoting this power imbalance and false hierarchy.

Just as a disclaimer: Naturally, the degree of victim blaming will vary from denomination to denomination, church by church. Not even all christian denominations have shunning practices, but majority still shame the victim.

For the Christians reading this, if you don’t see this in your community…that’s great. Now look at the false Christians and denounce these behaviors when you see it. Teach them the compassion and empathy Christ taught. Steer them away from the false prophets, stop letting them use your lord’s name for vanity.

These false Christian’s are incredibly indoctrinated into a toxic system. The only way I know to reach them, is to preach scripture. I know many would prefer to instead preach deconstruction. All I can say is…baby steps. Meet the opposition where they stand.

Go save the lost lambs that wandered away.

My Story

My Name is Carrie Rodriguez and I am a Psychic Medium and Paranormal Investigator. On the more personal side, I am married to an amazing and gifted husband. Both of us were born and raised in San Jose, California. We have been apart of the paranormal community since 2014. A few years ago we started our own paranormal investigation team, Los Gatos Paranormal. Together we have 5 children. 4 days a week I am also an RDA working as an orthodontic assistant for the last 10 years in Los Gatos, CA.

My magickal name is La Hermosa Bruja. Translated the meaning is "The Beautiful Witch." Not beauty as in looks, but as in pure in spirit and ethics. I am a Solitary Practitioner and I do not belong to a coven. This is my own choice as I feel belonging to one would hinder my spiritual journey. Yes, I am a β€œreal” Witch and I have chosen to specialize in protective magick when we came across some disturbing paranormal activity after moving into our first home.
