Yesterday I had the opportunity to join my fellow health care providers at the New Mexico State legislature in advocating for health care in New Mexico. Our primary goal was to encourage our legislators to vote “yes” to New Mexico House Bill 99 which seeks to reform our malpractice laws so that they are more in line with other states. New Mexico competes with states like Colorado, Texas, Arizona and Utah for providers, but when they come here and find out that their Malpractice costs are double to in some cases almost triple their neighboring states, the average wait time for patients to see physician specialists can be 6 months to 1 year, their is no cap to punitive damages in malpractice lawsuits and law firms all over the country are targeting New Mexico because of a patient compensation fund that has morphed into a lawyer compensation fund…they leave. House bill 99 seeks to reform these issues. Please encourage your state senators and representatives to vote “yes” on House Bill 99!
If you are in Dona Ana county or want to encourage the Senate Judiciary committee to allow this bill to get to the floor for a vote reach out to Joseph Cervantes at 505-986-4861 or email him at Joseph.cervantes@nmlegis.gov.
