Haunted by ghosting? đź‘»

Whether it's a love interest or someone you considered a best friend, being ghosted can leave us feeling confused and rejected, which can trigger old wounds and feelings of unworthiness.

Next time this happens, just remember ... ghosting is often more about the ghoster’s inability to communicate than it is about you. Instead of letting it haunt you, use this experience as a chance to reflect and grow. Focus on self-compassion and reach out to friends who lift you up.

Consider journaling about your feelings or even talking to a therapist if old wounds resurface. This can be an opportunity to reassess your relationship patterns and build resilience.

Have you found ways to turn ghosting into a learning experience? Share your thoughts and let’s support each other in this journey!

It’s OCD Awareness Week, and there’s no better time to dive into our October series focused on Relationship OCD! 💖

Let’s take a moment to reflect on a classic love story: remember The Notebook? Picture this: after all the ups and downs, Rachel McAdams' character, Allie, chooses to be with Noah, culminating in that iconic, passionate kiss in the rain. But what if, long after that magical moment, Allie couldn’t shake the nagging doubts? What if she found herself questioning if Noah was truly the one? What if she was haunted by thoughts of whether she should have chosen Lon instead?

Imagine Allie constantly wondering if there’s someone out there who could be better for her, second-guessing every emotion, every rough day, and every new person she meets. “Did I make the right choice?” would echo in her mind, day after day. This is the reality for people with relationship OCD (ROCD).

While it’s normal to have doubts about your partner or your feelings, ROCD takes it to another level, involving compulsive behaviors and overwhelming anxiety that can cloud your judgment. 💭

If you or someone you know might be struggling with ROCD, it’s crucial to seek support. A therapist can help assess your feelings and guide you toward effective treatment options, like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. This gold-standard approach empowers you to confront your fears in a safe environment, helping you build resilience and reduce compulsive behaviors over time.

Do you experience OCD symptoms that leave you feeling trapped? A form of the disorder known as scrupulosity OCD can distort your moral compass, creating intrusive thoughts about sinning or making the "wrong" choice, leading to compulsive behaviors that can take over your life.

Remember, if you struggle with OCD, you’re not alone. Recovery is possible with the right support and treatment, like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, which helps you confront your fears without succumbing to compulsions.

This journey is about reclaiming your values and living authentically, rather than being driven by anxiety and unwanted thoughts. 🌟

How do you navigate your choices when anxiety pops up?

Su***de is the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10 to 24. This statistic underscores how crucial it is to prioritize awareness, support, and prevention—during September and all year round.

Su***de prevention is a community effort, and each week of this month, we will focus on recognizing specific segments of the community who contribute to this effort. Our hope is to shine a light on the unwavering support and love that each of us can both give and receive.

If you are struggling, we want to remind you that you are incredibly loved, even if you don't see it. There is someone out there who smiles every time they see your name pop up on their phone. There is someone who noticed you on the street and thought, "Wow, that person looks cool!" There is someone envisioning you when they picture their soulmate. There is someone out there rooting for your success.💙💜

Take a moment today to remind someone of this. Your words can make a powerful difference.

We Are a Different Kind of Residential Treatment Center for Young Adults.

Newport Institute’s mental health treatment approach is an insight-based, trauma-informed, and relational model that addresses the unique needs of young adults. We recognize in every individual the inherent desire for meaning, purpose, and belonging. For young adults, lack of self-esteem and unresolved trauma can lead to ongoing mental health issues and co-occurring disorders, or challenges that arise as they leave home and begin to lead more independent lives. Our mission is to empower minds and restore families.
