We can define goals as objects of a person’s ambition or an aim at a desired result. Most of us have some goals set out for ourselves to improve our lives. We can relate your goals to personal or professional progress. Either way, without goals, there’s not much room for advancement and without the challenge of reaching a goal you’ve set for yourself, life would be stagnant.

But the process in which we set goals for ourselves matters. Although, you are responsible for whether you follow through with the goals you’ve set for yourself, how you set them has a hand in determining how successful you’ll be in achieving them.

The term SMART Goals refers to a process in which you set your goals that will give you greater success.

*SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Bound.*

The SMART goals method will help you with your organization, focus, and clarity with your goals. Research has shown that using the SMART goals method can save you time and simplify reaching your goals. SMART goals are easy to implement and can be used by anyone with the desire to improve their life by setting and achieving goals.

The SMART Goals method of goal setting works because it lays each step out for you.

The S stands for specific, meaning the goal needs to be clear and specific. When setting a goal for yourself, you must steer away from generalized statements. The more precise the goal is the better.

M is for measurable. Measurable goals refer to tracking your progress. Your goal will be easier met if you can assess progress along the way, giving you more motivation and focus toward your ultimate ambition.

Next, A. The A is for attainable. Although your goals should help stretch you outside of your comfort zone and push you to the next level, it’s important that the goals you set remain achievable.

R, relevant goals are imperative to your success. This means that the goals you set should be important to you and aligns well with your life and other goals you have set.

Finally, T, for time bound. Your goals should have a deadline to achieve them. This will help keep you on track and focused, and give you opportunities to celebrate your small wins along the way.

By implementing the SMART Goals system, you will gain the ability to achieve your goals, faster and with a higher success rate.

Do you use the SMART Goals system?

Gratitude is a powerful thing and we’re just scratching the surface when it comes to discovering the various mental and physical effects it has on us. For the next 7 days, I'd like to share with you my thoughts on why making gratitude a daily focus will be so beneficial for you.

Practicing gratitude helps your overall mental health because you instantly have a better outlook on life. Don’t be surprised to walk away from your latest gratitude meditation with a big smile on your face.

Of course, the benefits don’t stop at increased happiness. Feeling more gratitude has been linked to a better self-image and less anxiety. Scientists have noted increased levels of dopamine and serotonin after intentional gratitude meditations.

On the other hand, it's one thing to feel better emotionally, but the release of these “feel-good” hormones affects your physical body as well. Gratitude reduces stress and with it, better sleep and more energy. Woohoo!

How can you tap into both the mental and physical benefits of gratitude? A great place to start is by creating a habit of thinking of at least one person or one thing you are deeply grateful for each morning as soon as you wake up.

It sets the tone for the whole day and gets you off to a great start to reap these powerful benefits.

Give it a try! What are you grateful for today?

What’s not to love about a long autumn weekend focused on gratitude?

I’m always down for another slice of pumpkin pie or watching my Dallas Cowboys play football, but my all time favorite tradition this time of year is eating with the family and just hanging out together.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

We live in a noisy world and often feel like we need some sort of background noise going. Being in total silence has become uncomfortable. But why should we sit in silence for a moment? Let’s talk about the benefits of spending time in silence and getting comfortable with it.

As much as you may enjoy having music constantly playing in the background or the TV always on, that constant noise can wear on you. Even if you don’t realize it, your brain is working extra hard to process that noise along with your current task. Yes, it’s okay to allow yourself that music or TV or even conversation with others while performing some tasks and duties. However, you want to make sure you are also setting aside special “quiet time” for yourself throughout the day.

🌟Finding Calm

Setting aside time to embrace the silence and enjoy peace and quiet will help your mind find the calm. You want to give your brain and body that time to rest and reset. A calm and peaceful environment allows you to rest. You will find that after some quiet time, your mind will feel more rested and ready to take on new challenges.

🌟Thinking Clearly

Oftentimes, the stress and noise of our everyday activities can fog our brains. Setting aside a time during your day – even 5 minutes – of quiet reflection will help to clear your mind and organize your thoughts. Meditation will also benefit you in this area.

🌟Being Mindful

Sitting in quiet reflection time also allows you to practice mindfulness. You are being intentional with your time and with your thoughts. This brings about a huge benefit and will help immensely with de-stressing.

Sitting and relaxing in complete silence does amazing things for your mind and body. You can really get in tune with your thoughts, emotions, and intentions. It may be uncomfortable at first or feel weird. But as you practice more and more, you will find that embracing the silence leads you to deeply reconnect with yourself.

Try it and let me know how it goes!

With respect, honor, and gratitude. Thank you veterans.

In a world full of negativity, on TV news and social media, being positive can be quite difficult. How you respond to your surroundings could make all the difference to your day, and even to your life. Having positive thinking is a critical skill that allows you to see the good things in every situation.

This opens opportunities that you are blinded to when you are full of negativity.

Here are 10 simple habits to grow your positive at work.

1. *An Attitude of Gratitude.* Wake up with a grateful heart and bring it along with you. I recommend to keep a gratitude journal with you to list great things that happen throughout the day. A grateful heart is a happy heart.

2. *Take a Break*. With work, you can get overloaded with tasks and responsibilities. When it gets to be too much, walk away from your workspace, have a quick coffee break, take a nap or step out to walk. Breathe.

3. *Visual affirmations*. Use sticky notes to remind you how beautiful and awesome you are. Learn to compliment yourself when others don’t.

4. *Compliment other people*. As you see the greatness in you, you learn to appreciate other people too. Don't be shy and spit it out. A loving atmosphere invites positivism.

5. *Find a mentor.* This can be in the persona of your boss or peer or even someone outside of work whom you respect. They offer a different perspective to see things in a different light.

6. *Mind your input.* Be wary of what kind of information you allow in your life. Garbage in garbage out. Rather than listening to gossips or negative posts on social media, read inspirational books. Listen to podcasts or music to inspire and bring out the creativity.

7. *Smile.* Smile induces happy hormones that bring positive thoughts. Smile and the whole world smiles at you!

8. *Channel your emotions.* Sometimes life gets in the way and something always comes up. Find ways to release your stress. Some find writing or arts healing. I love to journal. Find out what activities gives you a feel-good feeling after a tough day at work.

9. *Celebrate small wins.* Do not downplay your achievement. You deserve that high five for helping your clients or solving that problem. Strive for progress, not perfection!

10. *Surround yourself with those that support and love you*. As Zig Ziglar said, you are the average of the five persons you spend your time with. Make sure that you spend those times with positive people, whether at work or outside.

I hope these tips will bring just a little bit of joy to a bad work day. Let me know if you try one of these tips! I want to support you!

These days, the world often seems to be a terrible place, with one disaster happening after another. In the last few months, the world has experienced a pandemic, massive protests, and never-ending news stories about politics, sickness, and death. Then there is today, Election Day.

I know for myself I will have to prioritize taking care of me and my family. The need to take care of our mental health is vital today.

Meditations will be played and a lot of deep breathing will be logged today.

Despite the uncertainty of today, I remind myself that opportunities for more joy in life do exist. How do you find more joy in your life, even now in times of fear and chaos?

According to psychologists and researchers, there are five simple ways to help you find more joy in your life. These five ways work, no matter what state the world is in right now. I remind you that successfully finding more joy in your life depends on what state *your* mindset is in, *not* on what is happening in the world.

**Don’t Wait to Be Happy**

> “There is no time like the present.”

If you wait for something to happen to make you happy, you will spend your life waiting, not finding joy.

When you delay joy for a future event, you miss countless opportunities for joy every day. Finding more joy means living in the present and appreciating the good you see all around you.

**Practice Gratitude**

> “It’s not happiness that brings us gratitude. It’s gratitude that brings us happiness.” – Anonymous

When you practice gratitude, the world becomes a much more joyful place. Even when things are difficult and seem out of control, gratitude helps you keep a positive mindset. Being grateful for what you have improves your resilience against obstacles in life.

**Self-Care**

> “The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself.” – Diane von Furstenberg

Don’t let what happens in the world keep you from taking care of yourself. Your self-esteem and mindset depend on self-care. Simple pleasures, quiet moments, hobbies, and taking care of your health are ways to practice self-care, improve your emotional strength, and find more joy in your life.

**Surround Yourself with Positive People**

> “Surround yourself with positive people and you’ll be a positive person.” – Kellie Pickler

Who you spend time with affects how you see yourself and how you see the world. By surrounding yourself with positive people, you boost your positive feelings about life. Positive people help keep you on track, support you, and help you practice gratitude.

**Stop Worrying**

> “You can destroy your now by worrying about tomorrow.” – Janis Joplin

Most of what people worry about never happens. Worry comes from fears inside your mind about what could happen, not about what will happen. Worry often involves being upset about the worst-case scenario, which rarely happens.

And even if something terrible does happen in the future, worrying won’t stop or change it. Worry focuses your attention on negative outcomes, not on the opportunities for joy in your life. You will find more joy when you stop worrying about the chaos in the world and focus on the goodness in your life.

Find more joy in your life by focusing on the good that surrounds you. No matter what is happening in the world, your happiness and joy depend on having a positive outlook and mindset.

Do you struggle to keep yourself motivated? (I'm raising my hand!) If so, you’re definitely not alone!

It’s easy to find the initial motivation to change something. When you first set out a goal, you’ll find you’re excited and highly motivated to achieve it. However, fast forward a week or two and that motivation slowly starts to dwindle away.

Getting motivated is easy, but keeping it is not.

The good news is, there are ways you can boost your motivation when you feel it starting to dissipate. I want to share with you these tips to boost motivation right now.

**1. Make a Public Commitment**

It’s easy to give up on your goals and lose motivation if you keep them to yourself. However, when you share your goals publicly, you’ll be more motivated to achieve them.

This is because when you involve other people, you don’t want to let them down. You’ll also find they frequently ask you how it’s going, providing consistent motivation, not to mention that accountability factor to carry on.

So, let people know what you’re working towards. Another suggestion is to partner up with someone who has the same goal as you do? That way, you can motivate each other.

**2. Remember the Purpose Behind the Motivation**

When you start working towards your goals, you have what feels like an endless amount of motivation. This is because you’re right in the moment where something has spurred you on to make a change. However, as time goes by, it’s easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place.

So, the key is to remember why you’re working towards your goals. Say you want to lose weight for example. You can either hang up a piece of clothing you’re desperate to get back into, within eyesight. Or, you could pin up a picture that motivates you to carry on with your weight loss goals.

Or if you want to go live on video for the first time. You could announce it on social media or tell your email list about it. Then it's out there! Not much you can do to go backward or stop from there.

**3. Break your Goals Down**

A common motivation mistake is to create goals that are too broad. The longer it takes to reach a goal, the more chance there is of losing motivation along the way.

Instead, you’ll want to be setting smaller goals that are easily achievable. As you achieve them, that boosts your motivation to reach the next goal. Nothing feels better than ticking off little goals that you’ve set yourself.

Remember that nothing is too small or not worthy of tracking. If you're going to go live and you decide the topic of your live, that's a checkmark right there! Picking out what you are going to wear on video is another checkmark. Every checkmark gets you closer and closer to your goals.

These are 3 of the best ways to boost your motivation right now. What you need to remember is that motivation takes work. It’s not something that’s magically going to come to you. You need to push yourself to get motivated and using the tips I shared will help!

The more you work at it, the more it will pay off.

What do you do to keep your motivation fire going?

Did you know there’s an art to setting effective business goals? It’s not enough to simply come up with a few goals, then work towards them. Instead, a great deal of planning and preparation needs to go into them.

This is because, there are actually a lot of mistakes you can make when setting and working towards your goals. The trouble is, if you do make these mistakes, it’s going to hamper your progress and potentially crush your motivation.

Today’s workplace can be a stressful place. There are more work demands than ever before. Technology keeps you in touch a little too much.

You can’t even enjoy a tuna sandwich without someone being able to call or text us.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Well, for one thing, the stress in the workplace can lead to more negative thinking. More negative thinking can limit your creativity and productivity, two important things for good performance on the job. Instead of finishing your tasks faster, you could fall into a low energy state and take twice as long. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be in that situation.

Do you have a method for resetting your mind and being more positive during a stressful time in the workplace? If not, I got you covered!

Imagine being able to snap yourself out of a negative, stress-induced mindset. Being clear of pessimistic thoughts enable you to be more present and enjoy the work that you are doing. And the best part? You can do something like this for less than two minutes. No joke!

**Step 1. Inhale and Exhale slowly**

While you are breathing slowly, *focus* on your breath. *Feel* the air filling in your lungs. *Feel* your diaphragm contracting as you slowly let the air out under control.

If you are crunched for time, doing this breathing exercise for at least 30 seconds can help you to feel more relaxed and less tense.

**Step 2. Acknowledge Where You are At**

Be honest with yourself and identify what your thoughts and feelings are right in the moment. For example, you could say:

“I feel stressed about this new deadline”

“I am exhausted from not sleeping last night”

“I feel irritated at the phone call I just had”

By doing this we are bringing the thought to your conscious mind. You are facing the uncomfortable in order to get comfortable.

**Step 3. Add some Positivity To Your Presence**

Now it is time to add some positivity. Ask yourself these three questions and answer them out loud.

- What is good about my current situation?
- What is good in my physical surroundings right now?
- What is a good event happening right now?

What we are doing here is getting present with where we are right now. While it is easy to find depressing and negative things around it, it is worth the effort of think about what is positive about our life, right now. Focus on the present and what is good in your life.

Give this 3-step process a try the next time you find yourself cluttered in thoughts, stressed about something that happened, and unable to break out. By taking a moment to breathe, acknowledge, and positively expand, we allow ourselves to shift our minds into a new way of seeing things.

If you try all or at least one of these steps, let me know how it goes! Did it help? Or did you not feel any different? I want to know!
