That's What They Said

That's What They Said I am a working professional with a career and family. I am also obsessed with Fandoms. It's a delicate balancing act between professional and geeky.

I design and create sterling silver jewelry for Fandoms I love (BBC Sherlock, Harry Potter, the Walking Dead, comic book movies, Lord of the Rings, and others!) and things I obsess over (Supernatural and Doctor Who.) I love these things, but I have a job where I can't wear Fandom tee shirts. I want to add some nicer, higher-end jewelry to what else I'm seeing out there to elevate Fandoms from fringe to something everyone could want.

I'm trying to decide a direction to go in for my line. Since we sadly didn't sell much in Vegas, I've still hour the bulk of my stock. So, phoenix is coming in June and I have some time to explore. I have three ideas for sure, but...

I could stick with some of the original ideas I had had when I was getting ready for Pasadena last year, like etching copper to make new pieces. Make some pendants I've been wanting to and maybe bracelets, too.

Or, I could branch out a bit more and try to make some now craft kind of stuff that would be less expensive, but more time and effort to learn, potentially. I thought about making costume type of pieces, like wings and costumey jewelery. Thoughts?

With progress halted on my other piece form hell, I'm working on the cosplay components. Here's Ruby's knife, taking shape pretty nicely. I'm going to try the etching for the piece and Ruby's knife blade tomorrow. I hope they all decide to work like I want!!

My plans for this evening? Etching this piece from Hell (Fitting for SPN,) cutting, filing, fitting, then etching it again. All tonight. Oh, and I also just killed the world's biggest spider out on my driveway and am waiting to be sure she's really dead before I knock down her Sistine Chapel of webs so I can have my walkway back. Seriously, her web goes from the bumper of my car to the light on our garage and everything in between. This is no tiny web. I love spiders. Enjoy Hell, spider bitch. Say hello to my piece while you're there.

The pieces of jewelry are based on quotes from the show. characters' names appear floating above the lines of their own quotes. (in this case, Pudding is on there somewhre, as is Bitch, and just at the top you can see the family business quote.) I will start off with a smaller line, and hopefully expand to offer more characters. I'm namely hitting the more popular and the ones who are at the convention.

So the plan with these pieces of silver Geekery are to end up on Etsy, for sale on my store. I'll find someone technical to supply my link when it matters. But the real end game is in November, when there is going to be another Supernatural convention in California that we are going to (hopefully) attend as vendors. This is also when I will use my Lucifer cosplay. I think it would be great to wear my plaid one day, my Always Keep Fighting fund raiser shirt and my cosplay for the three days of the show.

Here's the etched piece of copper, which was blackened by marker for contrast. We don't actually use marker, I just needed to see the detail better. What do you think, public?

I am officially less than a week away from having my first two pieces in sterling from to different sources that are helping me with production. The idea is that these will not be in copper, unless people expressly ask me for it. (Maybe. As someone who is allergic to non-silver, I'm sort of against the copper idea.)
