We are so honored to share this sweet story from our San Antonio office. 💛💛💛
"I would like to share a story that reflects the heart of our mission and the power of compassion, teamwork, and community.
Bob, one of our patients, receives companionship through one of our dedicated volunteers, Ilene Tello. During one of their visits, Bob shared his final wish was to see a blue semi-truck again. For over 28 years, Bob was a truck driver, and the road was not just his career, but it is part of who he was.
Ilene immediately recognized the meaning behind his words. She shared Bob’s wish with our Volunteer Coordinator, Tien Nguyen, who then reached out to the community, local contacts, and social channels in hopes that someone might be willing to help even for a moment.
The community came together, and a blue semi truck arrived just for Bob.
When he saw it, his entire spirit lifted. With determination and will power, Bob gathered the strength to climb into the semi-truck one last time. For a moment, he wasn’t a patient... he was a truck driver again, reliving the life he loved.
This was Bob’s final wish, and because of teamwork, compassion, and community, it was fulfilled.
This moment is a reminder of our WHY.
Hospice care is not only about comfort at the end of life, it is about dignity, honoring life stories, and creating meaningful moments that stay with families and caregivers forever. It is a privilege to walk alongside our patients during their final chapters and help make moments like this possible."
