Casey Stewart, MN, RN, has been named Director of Emergency Services for Central Carolina Hospital effective Monday, Feb. 9.

Stewart has served as Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital since 2023, where she oversaw patient care and department operations. She served in the same role at Cape Fear Valley Hoke from 2017 to 2021. She served as Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill from 2021 to 2023.

Previously, Stewart served as Nurse Manager of two inpatient departments and the telemonitoring department at Auburn Medical Center, part of Multicare Health System in Washington state, from 2016 to 2017. For three years prior to that, she served as Program Manager for Emergency Services Programs at Auburn Medical Center.

She has served as Charge Nurse at Madigan Department of Emergency Medicine in Washington state and at Womack Army Medical Center’s Department of Emergency Medicine in Fayetteville, NC, where she was also a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

A native of Seattle, WA, Stewart received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, in 2002. She earned her Master of Nursing degree from the University of Washington in 2015.

At Central Carolina Hospital, Stewart will oversee operations of the hospital’s new 20-bed Emergency Department, scheduled for completion in March of this year. The renovation and expansion adds 33 percent more beds, including three rooms designed for supportive and protective care of behavioral health patients.

“Casey is a strong addition to our leadership team at an important moment in our hospital’s growth into a vital hub for emergency care in Sanford and Lee County,” said Dave Santoemma.
“We are excited to welcome her as we near completion of our new Emergency Department.”

Dr. Vinod Chaubey, interventional cardiologist with Central Carolina Cardiology, kicked off the festivities in style today at the inaugural Spring Fling at the Lee County Enrichment Center.

Dr. Chaubey spoke on "Heart disease: What you need to know," and he received LOTS of questions from the highly engaged audience of about 40 seniors who attended the event.

CCH also provided free blood pressure screenings to those in attendance, as part of American Heart Month activities.

Dr. Chaubey's presentation kicks off the Lee County Senior Games and Silver Arts (SGSA)'s inaugural Spring Fling and National Wear Red Day. More events will be held throughout the spring.

Mylissa Hess, DNP, a visionary nurse leader and healthcare executive with more than 20 years of progressive clinical and leadership experience, has been named Chief Nursing Officer of Central Carolina Hospital effective Monday, Jan. 26.

A native of Decatur, IN, Dr. Hess brings a disciplined, mission-driven leadership style grounded in service, resilience and operational excellence. For the past 10 years, she has served as a critical care nurse in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

During that time, she served as Market Chief Nursing Officer for SageWest HealthCare in Lander and Riverton, WY, in 2024-25, as Chief Nursing Officer for Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales, NM, in 2022-24, as ICU Patient Care Manager at Thedacare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI, in 2020-21, and as Inpatient Services Nursing Director for Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IN, from 2017 to 2020.

Prior to that, Dr. Hess worked as a critical care nurse at the Veterans Administration Healthcare in Fort Wayne, IN, and as an ICU nurse at Adamas Memorial Hospital. She also served as a paramedic/training officer for Three Rivers Ambulance Authority in Fort Wayne, IN.

“We are confident that Mylissa’s experience and leadership will be a tremendous asset to our clinical teams and patients,” said Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH. “We look forward to the positive impact she will make in partnership with our medical staff and leadership teams.”

As a Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Hess has driven measurable results, including significant reductions in hospital-acquired conditions, improved patient satisfaction, optimized staffing models and enhanced throughput across inpatient and surgical services. She has successfully guided organizations through Joint Commission, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) and other accreditation surveys, consistently achieving strong outcomes through evidence-based practice, interdisciplinary collaboration and a culture of accountability.

Dr. Hess earned her Paramedicine Associate in Science degree from Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne, IN, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and her Master of Healthcare Administration degree from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, IN. She received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

She has been nationally recognized for her contributions to nursing leadership and patient care quality, including being named one of Today’s Nurse 2025 Top Chief Nursing Officers.

Outside of work, Dr. Hess enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and camping with her doodles, traveling with family and friends, and relaxing with creative hobbies such as crocheting.
