After much anticipation, we couldn’t be happier to share that the Omnipod® 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System has officially been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for individuals ages 6 years and older with type 1 diabetes. 🎉

➡️ Omnipod 5 is the first tubeless AID system managed through a compatible smartphone* in the U.S.
➡️ Omnipod 5 is also the only tubeless AID system that integrates with the Dexcom G6® Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) System** to automatically adjust insulin delivery and manage glucose levels both day and night, helping to protect against highs and lows***.

Like Omnipod DASH® it continues to be wearable and waterproof†.

We’ll now start a Limited Market Release (LMR), where the system will be used by an already predetermined number of people living with diabetes so that we can incorporate user learnings to deliver a best-in-class product experience for Podders® like you. Lois was my very first diabetes doc after my diagnosis, and helped me through almost 30 years now of living with diabetes ... 😢

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our revered former CEO and CSO, Dr. Lois Jovanovic. There is truly no way to express what she meant to us and the difference she made for people with diabetes, especially in the field of diabetes and pregnancy.

Dr. Jovanovic was the godmother of modern-day diabetes care, and pioneered the protocols used worldwide for diabetes and pregnancy. Dr. Jovanovic’s legacy has a global impact as she was renowned around the world for her extraordinary contributions to medical science, specifically for pioneering the protocols that make it possible for women with diabetes to deliver healthy babies.

Under Dr. Jovanovic’s leadership, SDRI became a center of excellence for diabetes and pregnancy and artificial pancreas technology. Through community outreach, patient education, teaching, and working one-on-one with thousands of pregnant women, she has changed the world of diabetes and pregnancy. Dr. Jovanovic was responsible for establishing global guidelines of care adopted by the International Diabetes Federation and traveled extensively throughout the world teaching her protocols to physicians, nurses, dietitians and educators.

I signed because one bottle won't last me a month, but a second bottle isn't covered by insurance and will cost me $300! 😡

Approved! 🎉

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved Medtronic’s MiniMed 670G hybrid closed looped system, the first FDA-approved device that is intended to automatically monitor glucose (sugar) and provide appropriate basal insulin doses in people 14 years of age and older with type 1 diabetes.
