YOU ARE A BLESSING. Our very own Blessing, Laurie has been a part of the Santa Barbara community since moving here almost 30 years ago. Not only is she the creator of Blessings Abound, she’s a loving wife, a mother, a great friend, and an amazing boss, She is a prolific textile artist with work all over the world. Blessings Abound came out of her desire to spread compassion out into the world in times of joy and times of sorrow. When COVID cut her vacation short she got home and got right to work helping her community. She along with many others made and donated masks to the local community, First Nations Navajo communities and anyone else that was in need of masks to stay healthy. you are truly a blessing and we are all so lucky to know you.

Today I was reflecting on an order we received a few weeks before Easter some yeras ago. My bookkeepper took the message from a nun who had inquired about ordering our Pocket Blessing that says "I am dust and ashes". Her order wanted to use this Pocket Blessing on Ash Wednesday but wanted us to split up the pair we sold as they only wanted to buy "I am dust and ashes" without the accompanying Pocket Blessing "For me the world was created."

I called back and said I would be happy to sell the single blessing, but explained why we package it as a pair along. Jewish Tradition teaches that we should always carry these two notes in our pockets as a reminder to stay in balance. She thanked me for the story and said she would get back to us. Later that day, she called in with an order for 50 pairs of Pocket Blessings. So 50 Catholic nuns received these two blessings. I wonder if they still carry them in their pockets?
