Gorgeous natural dye inspiration
Tzutujil women in San Juan create a rainbow of natural dyes to color their fibers for weaving. Mexican marigold, carrot, cochineal, palo tinto, oak bark, sacatinta, avocado pits, and so many more, all vibrant and varying in hue depending on the season the plants were harvested and the strength of the dye bath. They use boiled down banana bark as a fixative for the colors! An art and intuitive science passed down since before even the eldest of them can remember. 🌈
