I will be turning 30 this November. My goal is to celebrate this milestone birthday by toasting to my health as well as to the health of all men! Back in 2011 some friends turned me onto this Movember organization and suggested I get involved by growing a mustache. I happen to be blessed with the ability to quickly grow facial hair so I had a lot of fun with this challenge. But in 2012 I spent a l
ittle more time looking into what Movember stood for and what its goals were. It is all about bringing awareness to men’s health issues. I realized that I was a typical guy that avoided going to the doctor at all costs. I didn’t have health insurance and spent very little time concerning myself with taking good care of my body. I decided to make a change. I found myself putting down the beer can, not lighting up a cigarette, eating those fattening desserts – and instead I went for long hikes, going to the gym and drinking fresh juices. My first real challenge came from my younger brother who suggested competing in an upcoming Tough Mudder (a grueling 13 mile obstacle course). I began to train hard for the next 9 months. In conjunction with my new-found health goals I decided to take on Movember as my pet charity. In 2013 I was able to raise almost $1,000 for the charity, won the Mr. Movember Contest and became “The Mustache Guy” amongst my friends and family. Now it’s time for the 2014 Movember festivities and I am upping my challenge to myself. I would like to become the biggest donor in Movember history and to do that I have put together the first annual BR4MH ….
