Today we celebrate International Stuttering Awareness Day! As a person who stutters, for many years I got caught up in the societal pressure to be fluent. No matter how hard I tried to speak "normally", I just couldn't. Trying to speak the way people expected me to speak only compounded what I was experiencing. On this International Stuttering Awareness Day, the message I would like to share with you is that I hope we can all make space for people who stutter to stutter, because that's what people who stutter do. A few ways we can do this are by:
-giving the person time to say what they want to say
-being patient
-maintaining eye contact
