5 Easy & Fun Ways to Boost Your Child’s Speech Skills at Home
Looking for playful, pressure-free ways to support your child’s speech development? Here are 5 therapist-approved activities you can do at home—no fancy tools needed!

1. Read Out Loud Together
Pick a book with bold pictures and describe what you see—"Look! The bunny is hopping!" Focus more on sharing the story than quizzing. Open-ended questions and letting your child point things out helps build confidence and vocabulary.

2. Make Animal Sounds
Bring those toy animals to life! Roar like a lion, moo like a cow —and encourage your child to do the same. It’s a simple way to work on sound production and recognition while having lots of laughs!

3. Try Simple Word Games
Games like Guess Who? or Memory boost vocabulary and sentence-building. Ask them to describe a character or object—this helps develop descriptive language and verbal expression while keeping things fun.

4. Get Into Pretend Play
Whether your child wants to be a chef, a teacher, or a superhero—pretend play is a goldmine for speech growth. Ask questions like “What’s your plan?” or “What’s next?” to encourage storytelling and communication.

5. Practice Tongue Twisters
Make speech practice a silly challenge! Start with slow tongue twisters like “Peter Piper picked a peck…” and gradually build up speed. It’s great for articulation and muscle control—plus, it’s hilarious!

Pediatric physical therapists are trained to guide movement and motor development, but no one understands a child’s emotions, behaviors, and personality like their parents. When both experts come together — therapists in movement and parents in knowing their kids — true progress happens. Let’s continue to work hand-in-hand to build stronger, more personalized care for every child.

We’d love to hear from both sides! Parents — what have you learned from working with your child’s therapist? Therapists — how do you partner with families to make therapy more effective?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let's keep the collaboration strong!

Did you know Albert Einstein didn’t speak full sentences until he was 4 years old?
Today, we remember that being different doesn't mean being less — it means thinking outside the box, just like some of the greatest minds in history.

To every child who learns in their own way — you are brilliant, capable, and destined for greatness.

Is your child mixing up letters like b and d? Having a tough time remembering letter sounds or rhyming words?

These can be early signs of dyslexia—not just a phase.

Every child learns differently, and spotting these signs early can really help.
With the right approach, reading and writing can get easier.

You’re not alone—and your child isn’t falling behind. They just need support that fits their way of learning.

Struggling with poor handwriting? Your child's shoulder might be the missing piece!
When we think of handwriting, we often zoom in on the fingers — but there's more to the story!

The scapulo-humeral rhythm (how the shoulder blade and upper arm move together) plays a powerful role in helping kids write with control and confidence.

When this rhythm is off, you might notice:

Tired arms
Slouchy posture
Messy or oversized handwriting
Extra wrist/finger movement to compensate
But when it's on point? The shoulder stabilizes the arm, the arm steadies the hand, and handwriting flows naturally!

So yes — better shoulder strength = better handwriting!
It's not just a fine motor issue… it’s about full-body coordination!
