🚨 Hair Dye and Cancer Risk

The NIH Sister Study, published in the International Journal of Cancer in 2019, followed more than 46,000 women for eight years and found that frequent use of permanent hair dyes was associated with a 45 to 60 percent higher risk of breast and ovarian cancers, especially in women coloring their hair every 5 to 8 weeks.

While correlation doesn’t mean causation, the findings highlight the importance of being mindful about repeated chemical exposure. Hair dyes can contain aromatic amines and endocrine disruptors that may pe*****te the scalp and enter the bloodstream.

☕️ Beware of your morning brew

Studies show that paper coffee cups can leach microplastics, BPA, and chemical ions including fluoride and nitrate into your drink in just 15 minutes.

One study found that a single hot drink (around 85–90°C) in a paper cup released ~25,000 microplastic particles along with ions like nitrate, fluoride, and sulfate into the beverage. (V.P. Ranjan et al., Environmental Science & Pollution Research, 2021)

Those “eco-friendly” paper cups often have a thin plastic lining that breaks down with heat, meaning your coffee may contain more than just caffeine.

☕ Your daily coffee might come with 25,000+ microplastics in just one cup.

A 2023 study in The Journal of Hazardous Materials found that hot liquids in disposable or plastic-lined coffee cups can release tens of thousands of plastic particles within minutes (PubMed 36848832
).

Microplastics can trigger inflammation and oxidative stress, disrupt hormones and gut health, and build up with daily exposure.

The hotter the drink, the more plastic leaches out.

Choose glass, ceramic, or stainless-steel mugs and metal filters instead of plastic-lined coffee bags or disposable cups. I try to bring my own cup if possible. Cant happen all the time but I am mindful!

Small choices create big impact on longevity. ♻️

Obesity and Cancer: Excess body fat promotes chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalance, and insulin resistance, which increase the risk of at least 13 cancers including breast, colorectal, and liver cancer (Lancet Oncology, 2017).

Alcohol and Health: A 2018 Lancet meta-analysis of nearly 600,000 people found that no level of alcohol consumption improves health, as even light drinking increases the risk of cancer and overall mortality (The Lancet, 2018).

Microplastics and Health: Microplastic exposure has been shown to induce oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage in animal and human cell studies, suggesting potential effects on metabolism, fertility, and organ health (Environmental Science & Technology, 2021).

Sleep and Health: Chronic sleep deprivation disrupts immune, metabolic, and cardiovascular function and is associated with higher risks of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and all-cause mortality (European Heart Journal, 2019).
