What’s the first thing you do when looking at a group photo you’re included in?
I know I’m in the bad habit of checking to make sure that I look good. I have to make sure my hair is not a mess, my clothes are flattering, I’m not standing weird, and my smile is perfect.
When you think about it, that’s acting pretty self centered. What would happen if we looked at the others in the picture first? If we made sure that they looked good before ourselves?
While applying this philosophy to a picture might seem trivial, aren’t we the same way in life? We make sure that our needs, wants, and desires are met first, and then we take time for others.
Imagine what it would be like to care for someone other than yourself first for a change. Instead of spending $5 on a coffee we don’t really need, we could donate it to someone less fortunate. Rather than buying another new pair of pants, we could donate the six pair we hardly wear. Before we go to a five star restaurant, we could donate something to the local food pantry.
In what ways can you serve someone other than yourself first this week?
