Do ribs have to be remodeled under general anesthesia?
Short answer: no — not in my practice.

Most providers still perform rib remodeling under full general anesthesia. I don’t.
We routinely do this safely under twilight (IV) sedation using propofol, ultrasound guidance, and targeted rib blocks that I personally perform on every rib treated.

No breathing tube.
No paralysis.
Minimal nausea.
Patients typically wake up comfortable and pain-free.

Same surgery. More options. More patient control.
