6 straight years of academics with 2 more to go and now in my 40s, 10-12 hours of studying on top of other aspects of life gets tough. Perfect time management and appropriate dose response is key; I’ve found on these longer days splitting up A-C with 2-3 hours of “work” between is super beneficial to maintaining good blood flow as well as the proper sympathetic stimulation needed for studying; total time < 60min even with pool prep. There’s a time and a place for every method of training and nutrition, it just needs to be aligned in the person.

QUALITY or QUANTITY? Food. Quantity determines energy availability, mobilization or storage
Quality contributes to overall health outcomes.
Abundance (or lack thereof) in either or both can be pathological and preceded the other.

What lenses are you looking at your training through? Fad approaches, comments of others, research-based, physiologically, biochemically, experimental? Learning from people, books and experience all alters our own training outcomes as it changes what we’re truly looking at or looking for.

also have another good controversial one:

post:
if you don’t think humans were designed to count calories or balance macros, then maybe you should rethink airplane trips, and c-sections or emergency medicine. just because an intervention doesn’t align with our inherent nature doesn’t change its value

comment:
the further we are from our innate self or longer we’ve been working toward a goal the more refined our approach may need to be. the same is seen in training goals, no one accidentally runs a sub 5 minute mile: the rigors and refinement to get there is accounted for in the details

A lot of times we justify things about our health because it's common. "All of my friends have a hard time losing weight, so it must be normal." But just because it's common, doesn't mean it's normal. Chances are, there are things you can do to remedy the challenges you face. DM me if you want to have that conversation!

Most people think that results come by just working harder. Sometimes it's hard to “do less” when that's what's actually needed! Hard work is doing what is needed, not always doing more, or doing it more intensely. The alignment of your fitness with your lifestyle supersedes the alignment of your fitness with your immediate goal. Sometimes going back to the basics of what makes you human is a stronger catalyst than the next fun shiny new thing.

Increasing your ability to recover from stress is foundational to building a higher capacity to push further. The art of integrating dose-specific work and rest into our day is the alchemy of our vitality. Sleep, play, calories, quality of food, bonding with others, prayer, meditation, laughter; all contribute in different ways What have you noticed to help recover you the most from hard work?
