Physicians and other health professionals CAN transform burnout into wholehearted living, loving, working and leading. "Burnout" can be a wakeup call, rather than the end of the line. It can be time to re-evaluate and reconfigure how we're living our lives -- and it may be the first time we've taken notice.

“Nobody sees a flower—really—it is so small… I'll paint it big and they will be surprised into taking time to look at it.” — Georgia O'Keeffe 🎨

O'Keeffe painted Black Hollyhock, Blue Larkspur in 1930 after being inspired by the flowers lining a path in Taos, New Mexico. Today, it’s a beautiful reminder to slow down and find the "world" in the smallest details.

I do think she had a great gift, but it's true that we ALL have great gifts -- just waiting to be uncovered. What does that uncovering require? Perhaps a willingness to experiment, and to sometimes be criticized. Not everyone is willing to tolerate that, so emphatically do they cling to their self-image. Georgia O'Keeffe had the kind of "nerve" she spoke of here. And that is another reason I continue to explore and learn about her. Her life and outlook can show all of us many worthwhile things. ❤

I love Noah Wyle's understanding and appreciation of our healthcare system.

I would also encourage an even deeper exploration and engagement of our psychospiritual (not religious) nature, which underlies how present and sane we can be as human professionals in extremely precarious times.

We CAN be present for patients, each other, our teams, and our families. Everything depends on recognizing where we all start from, though: connection, restoration, and sanity within our own sacred inner space. All outer expressions come from there. The very attitude we hold towards life, ourselves, and others depends on this.

A deep truth, offered through the insightful and creative Noah Wyle. I am so grateful that he is shepherding his show "The PITT" into our awareness, because it portrays so much of what healthcare professionals have been trying to deal with -- especially since the pandemic. There are sharks in the water, my friends. Your doctors and nurses are doing the best they can . . . and it sometimes erodes them from within. Be kind, if you can.

That’s transformation for you! It continues as long as we live. ❤️
