Join us in recognizing and the people who have given the ultimate gift: the gift of life. 💙

More than 100,000 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, and 90% of those waiting need a kidney.

Living donation is when a person donates an organ or part of an organ to someone in need. Living kidney donation is possible because we can live a healthy life with one functioning kidney. For many transplant candidates, it offers another path forward, often reducing time on the waiting list and leading to better long-term outcomes.

Congratulations to former Northwest Kidney Centers patient Adrian, who recently celebrated his one-year kidney transplant anniversary! 💙

Adrian spent more than 11 years on dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant, a milestone that came with many ups and downs. In our 2024 Discovery Gala video, he shared what that journey was like and the support he received, including guidance from his Northwest Kidney Centers social worker, Amy, as he navigated the transplant process.

April is Donate Life Month. Adrian’s story is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of organ donation, and we’re so happy to celebrate this milestone with him.

Research is shaping the future of kidney care, and it’s happening right where patients receive treatment.

Through our partnership with the Kidney Research Institute and the University of Washington, Northwest Kidney Centers patients can participate in studies during regular visits with the same care teams they know and trust. That means fewer barriers, more access, and a stronger voice for patients in shaping what comes next.

In the past year, about 150 patients have participated in research at NKC, with multiple studies underway to improve blood pressure management and expand home dialysis options.

During National Kidney Month, we’re proud to highlight how this work is improving care today and helping build a better future for patients. Read more: https://www.nwkidney.org/news/bringing-research-into-everyday-kidney-care/

For , our dietitians are sharing some of their favorite kidney-healthy recipes, including this Roasted Vegetables dish!

Roasting vegetables is a great way to add more flavor with less salt. Cooking at high temperatures creates caramelization and develops a rich, complex flavor, while giving veggies a crispy exterior and a tender interior. These fiber-packed, nutrient-rich vegetables help manage blood pressure and blood sugar—both important for kidney health.

Every March, National Kidney Month brings attention to kidney disease and the millions of Americans living with it.

For South King County resident Carmelle Bias, it’s personal.

After decades of managing lupus, Carmelle faced kidney failure and spent two years on dialysis before receiving a life-changing transplant in November 2024. Today, she’s using her voice to share her journey and encourage others—especially in the African American community—to stay informed, seek care, and keep moving forward.

At Northwest Kidney Centers, we believe the best care starts with listening. A few years ago, we took a closer look at how our patients felt about their care. What they shared led to meaningful changes across our clinics, and those changes made a real difference.

Patients told us they wanted clearer communication, more comfort during treatment, and reliable scheduling. But most of all, they wanted to feel heard. So we shifted our approach, treating patient experience not as a score, but as a relationship built on trust, compassion, and follow-through.

By listening closely and acting on what we heard, we made steady improvements over time. Today, our patient satisfaction scores rank among the top dialysis providers in the country. This reflects the small, everyday changes our care teams make to better support each patient.

Our work doesn’t stop here. We’re continuing to listen, learn, and improve because every patient voice matters.

A heartfelt thank you to Safeway for their incredibly generous donation of gift cards through the Nourishing Neighbors program. This meaningful support enables our social workers to provide food assistance directly to patients experiencing food insecurity, helping ease a very real burden for those already managing complex health needs.

“We’re so grateful – this gift will directly help patients who need extra support right now. No one should go hungry, especially when your food choices are already so limited by your health condition.”
— Amy Postel, Social Work Manager

Thank you, Safeway!
