As more and more states move to dismantle cannabis prohibition policies, federal inaction to address the reality of state-legal cannabis has created an untenable situation for businesses, medical ma*****na patients, adult-use consumers, and other key stakeholders across the country.

The Secure and Fair Enforcement Banking Act (SAFE) addresses this urgent issue by removing barriers to capital and financial services for state-legal cannabis businesses. SAFE is a bipartisan bill that would allow banks to work with licensed cannabis businesses and ensure that legal cannabis markets operate in a safe and accountable manner.

Current federal laws force many cannabis businesses to operate on a cash-only basis that puts the safety of employees and customers at risk. This unsustainable status quo is increasingly making legal cannabis businesses the targets of theft and violence, and hindering efforts to ensure financial transparency.

In addition to the very clear security and accountability issues, the present circumstances keep prices high, hinder equity efforts, and make it particularly difficult for small and minority-owned cannabis businesses to continue to operate.

Last month, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee finally held a hearing on the SAFE Banking Act, and now we need to make our voices heard. Tell the Senate that federal cannabis reform is a top priority by taking action today!

The time has come for Congress to recognize that cannabis businesses should have the same safeguards and banking access that every other legal industry takes for granted.
