The past few months have been full of big changes and struggles for me...

I've had to say goodbye to many things in my life as I have stepped into a chapter of deep inner transformation.

But out of this pain and loss has also come profound healing and growth.

Sometimes, we have to say goodbye in order to welcome something even better into our lives.

Endings can be painful, but they are so necessary.

Due to the intensity of the past few months in my personal and professional life, I have had to take a few steps back in my business in order to center my own self-care. (Even therapists need support sometimes!)

This upcoming year I will be focusing my energy on completing my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling and working with both survivors of domestic violence and perpetrators of abuse in intervention treatment programs. The opportunity to work on all sides of the spectrum of intimate partner violence is one of the greatest challenges I have had to face in my career so far.

Despite my hesitations and nervousness at the intensity of this work, I feel guided by a higher power to take on this mission.

As a therapist, I have learned to see the great wisdom and healing in walking into the darkness with my clients. It is an honor to stand with people amid their greatest pain without pushing it away. To give people permission to feel the tidal waves of emotion and to let it run its course so that we can get to the other side.

Through this intense healing work, I have decided to let my business go into a state of hibernation. Even though I may not be as active in my marketing efforts, know that I am still here doing this powerful work!

I will still accept a limited number of clients in my private practice at Surya Bella Wellness, but I will primarily focus this next year on working on the ground in domestic violence shelters in Seattle.

Sometimes we have to slow down in one area of our lives in order to invest more deeply in another. Thank you for following along on this journey, and know that even though I may be more quiet on my business page, I will be back soon with even more to offer. ❤️

Stay tuned for more updates to come...

Healing isn't all love and light, it requires embracing our darkness as well 🖤

In the realm of healing, we embark on a captivating dance – a dance that encourages us to embrace our shadows, the hidden corners of our souls where pain and scars reside. 🌗

Yet, within these very shadows, we unearth a treasure trove of our own inner light, a brilliance that's been patiently waiting to shine forth. 🌟

Healing is about weaving together the threads of our past, our pain, and our resilience into a tapestry that tells the story of our journey. It's an exquisite process that invites us to recognize the beauty that exists in the imperfect, to discover strength in vulnerability, and to acknowledge that, within every scar, there's a story of survival. 🌷

So, let us embrace our shadows, and in doing so, let us uncover the radiant, resilient, and indomitable light that resides within each of us. 💫

Embracing Healing in the Shadows of Dia de los Muertos 🕯️💀

As we honor the vibrant traditions of Dia de los Muertos, we are reminded that healing often begins in the sacred spaces of remembrance. ✨

This celebration, rich in culture and spirituality, teaches us that our connection to the past is a bridge to our healing. We remember not to dwell in sorrow, but to acknowledge the wounds and empower our spirits to mend.

Just as this day pays homage to those who've passed, it also serves as a mirror to reflect on the wounds we carry within ourselves. In the glow of marigold petals and the flicker of candlelight, we find solace in the transformative power of acknowledging our trauma and beginning our healing journey. 💫

The Day of the Dead teaches us that healing is not forgetting, but a dance with our history, our pain, and our resilience. In this dance, we embrace the shadows and emerge into the light of self-discovery and growth. 🕊️🌅

Trauma healing requires an approach that honors your body, mind, and soul ❤

In the sacred realm of trauma healing, it's essential to recognize that our well-being is an intricate dance between body, mind, and spirit. 🌟

Our bodies, repositories of immense wisdom, often bear the scars of our past. The mind, a vast landscape of memories and emotions, holds the power to both wound and mend. And our spirits, resilient and radiant, carry the promise of renewal.

To heal, we must embrace the wisdom of this trio:

1. The Body: Our bodies are the sacred archives of our experiences. The sensations held within are vital clues to the paths of healing. Acknowledge and honor the physical manifestations of trauma and heal inflammation by detoxifying your cells. 🌻

2. The Mind: In the vast canvas of our minds, memories are painted with emotions. By gently exploring these inner landscapes, we unlock the doors to resilience and growth. We can break down cognitive distortions, reduce flashbacks, and find freedom from the past. 🧠

3. The Spirit: Your spirit, your inner light, is an unwavering guide in the darkest of times. It carries the power to uplift, inspire, and reignite the flame of hope. When we surrender to the divinity within and all around us, we can tap into an infinite well of wisdom and healing. ✨

In the journey to heal from trauma, remember this intricate connection. Nurture your body, engage your mind, and kindle the light within your spirit. As you harmonize these elements, you'll find the path to not just recovery but a transformation that makes you stronger, wiser, and more luminous than before. 🕊️💖

Did you know that stress is considered the number one cause of illness? 🤒

The physical consequences of stress are undeniable - causing a range of impacts, including racing heartbeats, heightened blood pressure, and a weakened immune system.

Stress also fuels anxiety and restlessness, leaving us perpetually grappling with life's demands.

Yet, within the grasp of stress, there lies hope. By recognizing its presence and adopting mindful practices, we can nurture relief and build resilience.

❤ Here are five simple but potent stress relief techniques:

1. Step into Nature: Venture outside, where nature's embrace can calm your inner storm. A simple walk in the park or a moment in your garden connects you to something larger, grounding your soul.

2. Embrace Creativity: Engage in a creative endeavor - be it painting, writing, or crafting. Creativity is your portal to a peaceful, focused mind.

3. Mindfulness Matters: Dedicate moments to mindfulness. Take slow, deep breaths, immerse yourself in the present, and relinquish the burdens of the past and future.

4. Digital Detox: A brief hiatus from social media can be a breath of fresh air. Unplug and free yourself from the ceaseless hum of notifications.

5. Lean on Friends: Sometimes, the simple act of sharing your thoughts and feelings with a friend can work wonders. Reach out and connect, for there is healing in human connection.

The journey to relief and resilience begins with acknowledging stress and understanding its effects. Take these steps to heart, and discover the path to a more balanced, harmonious life. 🌿🌟

During times of chaos in the world, finding peace within yourself is a radical act ❤

When the waters of life are thrashing around us, we must focus even more to find stability within.

Your body and spirit are your life raft, and we each have the capacity to still the waters of the mind, no matter what is happening externally.

Through the wisdom of healing, we can find the path to peace.

1. Deep Breathing 🌬️: When the world seems to hold its breath, find solace in your own. Breathe in slowly for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four.

2. Grounding Exercises 🌱: Amidst the chaos of current events, step outside, feel the earth beneath your feet, and take in nature's soothing presence.

3. Mindful Awareness 🧘‍♀️: Chaos can feel overwhelming, but it's within the stillness of your own mind that you'll discover your center. Acknowledge your feelings without judgment. Emotions are like passing clouds; they will come and go.

4. Relaxation Techniques 🌸: In a world where tension is high, seek peace within. Explore soothing practices like progressive muscle relaxation or guided imagery.

5. Seek Support 🤗: The chaos of life is easier to navigate with a friend by your side. Connect with a friend, a therapist, or a support group. Sharing your thoughts and fears eases the weight.

Remember, just as storms give way to calm, even in the midst of chaos, moments of peace can be found. It's in these moments that you'll discover your own strength and the potential for a more peaceful world. 🌍🕊️

5 Yoga Poses to Relieve Stress and Find Inner Peace ❤

In the rhythm of your breath and the flow of your body, you can find your sacred inner space. 🧘‍♀️

These five yoga poses are your keys to unlocking stress relief:

1. Tree Pose 🌳: Rooted and tall, like a tree, regain balance and stability amidst life's chaos.

2. Downward Facing Dog 🐶: In this gentle inversion, let go of tension as you ground through your palms and elongate your spine.

3. Cat-Cow Pose 🐱🐄: Flow gracefully between these two poses to nurture your spine and ease tension in your back.

4. Easy Sitting Pose 🧘‍♂️: Find stillness and clarity in this simple seated position. Breathe deeply, and let go.

5. Child's Pose 🧒: Surrender to the earth's embrace. As you rest in Child's Pose, release worries and invite calm.

A Journey Within

Hi! My name is Isabella and I am a writer, yoga teacher, and the founder of Surya Bella. I assist others in finding their voice and connecting with their true selves through yoga, meditation, and the power of the written word.

I know firsthand how unsettling it is to feel disconnected from your true self and to feel the need to hide your thoughts and feelings. When I was younger, I didn’t feel very connected to my body or soul. I spent most of my time partying and studying, engaged in mind-numbing activities. But when I was 18 years old, I went through a transformative experience during a trip to Israel and decided to leave my university studies behind in pursuit of a simpler and more meaningful existence.

My travels took me around the world, backpacking through Israel and Europe, until I ended up in a yoga teacher training program in Rishikesh, India. My time in Rishikesh was tumultuous, filled with difficulties and tough lessons along the way. But through all the darkness, I also found a connection with God and with myself. I slowly cultivated a connection with my body, listening to my voice, and honoring the inner being that had been buried within me for so long.

In a very real way, yoga saved my life. It rescued me from the depths of addiction and self-destruction, but I still experience struggles on my journey every day. Yoga has given my life meaning and has put me on a path where I finally feel like myself, but I know that my road has a long way to go before I reach “the end” (if that even exists).
