I am trained in the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy. This massage is performed over the abdomen and lower back with oil to optimize blood, nerve, and lymphatic flow. It can be performed on all genders and benefits the digestive and reproductive organs. Clients find it very relaxing and are taught how to perform the massage on themselves at home. It can be especially beneficial for menstrual disorders, constipation, pelvic pain/tightness, post C section, fibroids, endometriosis, prostate conditions, and infertility. I offer this bodywork at my office in Wallingford and bill insurance for the visits (billed as a medical office visit plus manual therapy codes). Feel free to message me with any questions you may have about this treatment!

Yesterday was Indigenous People’s Day. This was an event held at City Hall called Time Immemorial. Indigenous speakers shared stories of cultural identity being lost in part through the operation of Indian Boarding Schools. Speakers shared how the Duwamish people, who have been in the Seattle/King County area since time immemorial, were falsely promised hunting and fishing rights in a treaty in exchange for 54,000 acres of their homeland. And due to the absence of federal recognition, have struggled to access educational and health services.

I’m sharing this information because generational trauma and loss of cultural identity are deeply related to communities’ and individuals’ health. As a human and as a medical provider, I’m committed to the process of decolonization for myself and others. I’m committed to achieving liberation for all.

We can’t begin to access health until we all have access to affordable and safe housing, fresh and nutritious food, places to be and move safely outside, affordable childcare, education, and ways in which we can heal from the trauma of racism and colonization.

Where do we go from here? Here are some ideas to get started:

- Donate and/or purchase merchandise at duwamishtribe.org
- Make a regular commitment with Real Rent Duwamish
- Check out the work Tubman Health is doing at tubmanhealth.org
- Please share your ideas in the comments

I love camping because it means spending time outdoors bathing in the forest air, seeing the starry sky, plunging into cold river or lake water, and feeling the earth under my feet. Nature cures! I cook veggie rich meals even while glamping- I used a backpacking meal of Chana masala (chickpeas) and then added some sautéed green beans and sweet potatoes, avocado, tomatoes, and h**p hearts. Sauces help make a bowl like this taste even better.

I have a special interest in treating digestive and pelvic floor complaints, which often go hand in hand. I am trained in pelvic floor physical therapy and the Arvigo Techniques of Mayan Abdominal Therapy which are bodywork modalities useful for treating conditions such as urinary incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, infertility, recovery from Cesarean section, irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic constipation. Other tools I often use for pelvic floor and digestive complaints include hormone and stool testing, food allergy testing, SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) testing, and yoga. I am also skilled in performing pap smears, pelvic exams, and IUD insertions.

Dandelion and cleavers grow abundantly as springtime “weeds” in the Pacific Northwest! They arrive at just the right moment after the winter when our systems have been sluggish. Dandelion leaves and flowers are bitter, stimulating digestive function and cleansing the liver. Here it is as a salad with a honey dressing to balance the bitter taste. Cleavers cleanses the kidneys and here I extracted it into alcohol as a tincture. Harvest from a clean forest as these plants are rich in minerals and draw up the metals from the earth they grow in - including toxins if they are present.

Back extensions are the antidote to our computer work and phone usage! They are uplifting- a natural antidepressant! And not to mention- they’re very fun.
