With big storm systems hitting parts of the U.S. and Canada this week, now’s the time to double-check your basics before heading out on long storm shifts.

Here are 3 real-world tips from 2 experienced lineworkers at IBEW Local 77:

1. PACK A STORM GO-BAG
Hydration, electrolytes, and easy snacks keep you steady when it’s 2 a.m. and nothing good is open.

2. BRING EXTRA CLOTHES + TOILETRIES
Fresh socks, a clean shirt, toothbrush, eye drops,etc. Small resets make a big difference.

3. CHOOSE SUSTAINED ENERGY
Skip the crash. Choose pre-workout or electrolytes over energy drinks when you need long-lasting focus.

Stay safe out there, and take care of yourself. ⚡️💪

Sleep isn’t just a wellness topic. It’s one of the most critical safety tools we have.

As Dr. Eric Rogers shared, when someone has been awake for 24 hours, their cognitive performance and reaction time are similar to having a 0.1 blood alcohol level. In high-risk, high-demand work, that has real implications for hazard recognition and SIF exposure.

Lineworkers aren't just workers. They're the definition of INDUSTRIAL ATHLETES.

But while pro athletes have the luxury of recovery time, you're out there keeping the lights on for 8-16 hours straight often in brutal heat.

Your body is your machine. Treat it like one:
- Start hydrating the night before
- 20oz of water first thing in the morning
- Get your body prepared for working in the heat with a dynamic warm-up
- Plan your shade breaks

And don't forget to be your brother's keeper by watching for early signs of heat stress like confusion or lack of coordination.

A veteran lineworker moves into position in the bucket- something he’s done a thousand times.

But this time, he nearly brushes an energized line. Not because he’s careless, but because the heat is taking a toll.

When your body’s fighting the heat, your brain slows down:
